Interesting with the 500mm! Quite some years since Leica ended production of their (still) outstanding APO-TELYT-R primes...

I suspect that the Fuji 500mm will be cheaper....

Good point. Best not to think about the cost of SL 400mm f2.8 APO with stabilisation (not to mention a 400+ mm prime for a mirrorless S4).

I had two GFX cameras  between 2017 and 2022. A 50s and a 100. The lenses were ok -and definitely cheaper than Leica S lenses-, but Ok does not mean “as good”. The Leica lenses are better. And the blue ring Schneiders for the Phase, too.

I am curious about the 30 t/s, though. If there was an S mount adapter I would consider it.

It would not focus well on the current S bodies

I imagine.  I use a Mamiya 50 shift and focusing with it takes time. But obviously, even though, because they are made for a mirrorless camera… would never do.

In January 2019 my friend and me went to the Leica Store, Wetzlar as my friend wanted to buy a new SL2. After all I found a second hand S2 and took it. But it was not the best idea. The S2 had a lot of problems (sensor corrosion etc. etc.). I insisted to get a new S3 plus 30-90 mm lens up to the 13th of March as I planned to go to Chile and Anarctica. But they told me impossible, impossible ... and  I insisted furtheron. 13th March nine o`clock my phone was ringing and I was told to pick up my brand new S3. I went again to Wetzlar. Comming back home I got the information everything has to be stopped because of Corona.

Situation now, my S3 is my big machine. It functioned absolutely reliable and I get excellent pictures of highest quality. But travelling around in the meantime I prefere my M 10-R plus APO-Summicron 35 mm. It`s a small and handy combo especially for an old boy like me.

I got fantastic Northern Lights images in Iceland with the S007 and the 24mm lens.  typically 5-8 second exposures, wide open about ISO 1600..

David, Northern Lights was my first exhibited project, back in 2019 (I am a documentary photographer).

It was shot in the ports of the North Coast in Spain at night (hence the title). You can see a bit of it in my website. Frame-it probably found it there as the publication is now out of print.

I was not photographing the aurora borealis Apologies for the confusion.

Kind regards, Irene

Just read your interview with 100ASA. Very nice images there, congratulations.

If you follow the Leica Rumors article to the original French Phototrend article  https://phototrend.fr/2023/09/fin-production-leica-s3-hybride-moyen-format/   it has the interesting reporting

"Le prochain hybride conservera la monture S

Leica nous a précisé que ce nouvel appareil sans miroir conservera la monture S et sera donc compatible avec tout le parc optique moyen format développé depuis plus de 15 ans."

which translates (according to Google) to

"The next hybrid will retain the S mount
Leica told us that this new mirrorless camera will retain the S mount and will therefore be compatible with the entire medium format optical fleet developed over more than 15 years."

Maybe I missed it but I haven't see that before?

It was obvious that Leica would want to make compatible the S lenses. But I would suppose that the “old” S lenses will need an adaptor if the new camera is mirrorless. What intrigues me, though, is the term “hybrid”.
