I'd thought this was a good image showing the lovely colours, sharpness and soft Bokeh of the lens . Welcome, dear visitor! rustyrus Posted May 1, 2023 Share #224 Posted May 1, 2023 The first Noci shot looks crazy out of focus to me. Maybe the DOF is just to shallow but its sort of painful to my eye. I much prefer the f/2.8 shot for a portrait here. Good comparison though.
Sharpcontrast Posted May 1, 2023 Share #225 Posted May 1, 2023 It might have been slightly out of focus at 0.95, but not by much. I like the f1.4 shots the most, the subject matter has pop from the background but the Bokeh is still nice and soft.
kinetic Posted May 1, 2023 Share #226 Posted May 1, 2023 If you uploaded these directly to the forum, know that the image is crushed like crazy, so it also looks especially bad when uploaded here.

This strengthens my point that the summilux has the same type of character but has more pop and easier to focus. That‘s the problem I often had on weddings. And when I watch the bokeh there is not that much difference. A bit more swirly in with the Nocti. Thanks you for these sets.

Storing high fidelity photos is expensive. Very expensive. Especially if you want them to be loaded quickly. It's a business decision, which you'd think would be made a bit differently for a photography forum.

But the allowed quality is far from good - for a photography forum anyway...

It's worse than most forums I've seen, even non-photography ones. Maybe they just want a bigger margin of revenue, or they're truly not getting enough monetary support to provide it.

I wrote an app (just for myself) to actually store photos for free at full, uncompressed, unchanged quality on Filecoin (using IPFS protocol). It's zero cost, and basically unlimited. There's these ways to do it, but it does take quite a bit of work to make, so I'm not sure how realistic it is to go beyond what forum software (that this one uses) can do.
