I don't get it either. Would have been an easy task, putting it on a scale. But... numbers and pictures are one thing - trying it in real it's different. Note large - still quite small and not too heavy

Thanks again for doing this test. Is it possible to do the same at f/2.8? The MTF chart shows the most difference in center sharpness between the two at f/2.8, I wonder if it would be noticeable in real world with your M11.

Well I see ONE very defined Ninja star directly above the lens. Otherwise no. I wish I hadn’t seen that one, I want to keep my old one!

Now I see it! Hahaha. I think I am going to be perfectly fine with the old one now. It doesn’t bother me that much. When it’s about lenses I like big flaws and I cannot lie.

After having seen Photoworks examples here above, I have the same impression. The ninja stars seem to be quite attenuated with v2.

The people at the Leica store Miami told me to look for the quality difference at infinity, he didn't test the 50, but that is what he saw on the 35 v2. I think that can be different from lens to lens too.

What I can tell from my test:

Sharpness and details are the same, I don't see any difference at 0.7 to infinity.

Chromatic aberration, wide open is a hair better corrected on the new one, where I see almost non. you see a little aberration in out-of-focus areas at 1.4, and they look the same.

the biggest difference is the F stop creating much smoother bokeh at every aperture. and of course the close focus.

I don't see any reason to make any more tests.

The ninja star bokeh in the v1 picture probably comes from a moving car or something, that wasn't even there when the v2 picture was taken.

the v2 lens has more blades in the f-stop creating a rounder shape. no big deal but less distracting. This can be seen at the most aperture, I have seen it at f2, 2.8 all the way to f8

One question. How sharp is the lens within the close focus distance? I remember reading the 35mm APO isn't all that fantastic inside of 0.7 meters. And someone else hinted that M lenses aren't all that great in close focus. I am trying to decide whether the CF is worth a trade in or not.

I find the 35Apo to be plenty fine at close focus, especially when stopped down. But I'm not overly particular for close focus sharpness wide open (I'd call the close focus of any Leica M lens a bonus feature). If I wanted detail I'd shoot close but at f4 or 5.6 (the depth of field is very thin even at f5.6 as it is, depending on your distance to subject). 

Am quite sure the close focus sharpness of the 35lux FLE v2 and new 50lux Asph v2 are more than fine, especially stopped down. With the additional aperture blades I don't see an issue with shooting at f5.6. With the previous 50lux Asph, I would be reluctant to shoot stopped down unless I was shooting landscapes or city scapes because I didn't want ninja stars to come out "unexpectedly", which I suppose is less of a case here (and a bonus for more blades + close focus?)

I don't own either of these revised summilux lenses so I can't post sample images. I did try several of my lenses on a voigtlander helicoid adapter for the fun of it and I found many of them to be acceptably sharp to my not-so-discerning eyes. You can always go a bit more "artistic" by shooting wide open at close distances and stop down for more detail. The ones which were not acceptably sharp were my pre-asph glass. I know the Noct 0.95 may struggle a bit too. 

I've thus far held off the urge to sell my 35FLE for the new one because I shot a wedding with it recently and didn't feel like I needed to shoot below 0.7m. With the 35Apo, I rarely feel the need either - in fact I find stuff to shoot under 0.7m because I have that feature, just to see how the images turn out. It's good for documenting things from a different perspective if you've shot with M glass for a long time and been limited to the 0.7m mfd, in that it is refreshing, but its really YMMV depending on your shooting style.

Just my 0.02cents.
