So recently bought an M8 from eBay, price is not too bad but that’s because there is no back screen glass top, LCD panel flawless, just no top glass.
So seller put a GIOTTOS Schott glass on top of the LCD panel, tiny tiny smaller than the original glass, it’s not been attached but suspended on top of LCD cause there is ridge all around it.

I’m wondering if there is still any Leica M8 OG screen window on the market? Or even after market one? Kinda worry about this because it’s actually not fully sealed as photo shown, but the GIOTTOS screen protector seems pretty solid tho.

Or maybe as a 17 yrs old camera, I just leave it there as it is, no break no fix? I’m not an adventure guys, just bought this camera for family shoting or road trip.

need help guys! Thank you!

The glass top is not a replacement part, never has been. Even if the LCD is still available replacement is quite expensive. Steer away from this camera unless the price is right and you want to use it as-is.

Thank you so much! What a spend, my bad.

btw, can m9 &m8 share the same glass top?

thank you!

Sounds like you've already bought it, if it is working fine and you got it for a good price I'd just use it as is. Were a repair to original possible I suspect it would be too expensive to be worth while.

It might be that someone could apply a seal around the existing screen to allay your concerns. It does look like a good job has been made of fixing the Schott glass in though, so maybe just don't take it out in the rain.

It is not a separate part... This camera is non-repairable.

I think the OP is asking about a protective cover, not the LCD.

The protective cover was never part of the original camera, nor was it supplied as an aftermarket option by Leica. The LCD might scratch if you let the camera hang from your neck against a jacket zip, but it will remain usable.

If you want a protective cover, then you will have to check third party options, or measure up and buy one the right size, or cut one to the right size (ebay, Amazon etc).

Yes what I need is just the protective cover, and I can’t stop myself to looking for an M9 one instead of M8 one, seems like this 2 cameras share exactly the same size of the screen.

I don't know if they share the same screen size.

A sadly yes, I just bought it 😞

but other than the protective cover, everything works fine. So I’m wondering maybe I can look for a M9 protective cover instead of M8 one, seems like they share exactly the same size of the screen.

so I would like to give it a try 😄

The links in my post were to covers listed as for the M8

Protective covers are not essential. I've never used them and whilst the lcd will scratch up in time it will still be perfectly usable unless the scratches are everywhere and deep. Mine aren't and I use my cameras and don't mollycoddle them although I look after them. Use your M8 and don't worry about it; great camera.

i slipped walking in the garden and cracked the protective cover i had on the screen . when i removed it , the screen glass came with it .

seems you can heat the cover ,  when on the camera , with a hairdryer to reattach it .  i did not feel confident doing this . i put on another

screen protector and used black photographers masking tape , using narrow strips , to reattach the screen . at the time , there were some

replacement screens for sale on eBay . you might think about using non-reflective glass , as used to cover paintings in museums , cut to size

and keep it in place with the black tape . plastic might also work . as you found , the protective covers are too thin . hope this might help .

Thank you so much for the info Mort!

I actually already ordered a screen cover replacement from eBay, an aftermarket one of course but I think it still worth to try, cost me $40.
The good thing is it comes with 3M tape on the back edge, so basically I just need to detached the old screen protector and put the new one back on, maybe I need to clean the residue of glue around the screen first tho.

Question... why do you need to replace that protector you already have, is it broken?

Well it’s actually not about ‘the screen protector’.

I’m trying to buy an aftermarket screen top window.

as you can see in the photos, this camera doesn’t have an original screen top window, seller just simply put a screen protector directly on top of the LCD panel, so that’s why I need to buy one.
The screen protector is slightly smaller so there is a gap around the screen area, it collect dusts heavily 😄
