Not much I can say except that it is 1:1 and does the job. No sign of field curvature. I thought of other possible lenses, but given that I am likely to want to keep it for a good while with limited use, I reckoned it would earn its keep by appreciating in value. I use the 24-90 SL zoom at 90 for 5x4 negative digitising. At 90mm it frames a 5x4 pretty exactly. I can’t believe i haven’t tried getting closer with the 24-90! What a putz! I should have added (as I posted elsewhere today), my 24-90 has zoom creep, so I can only use it in this mode at 90 (unless I add bluetack). Fortunately that is the best FL for 4x5 negs. I can also recommend mark up tape for a good fastener.

I actually use the M10M and the M APO 50 with the macro adapter to dupe 120mm negatives. I use a stand from Negative Supply with a great light and filter holder. I also dupe 35mm with it. I still love my Nikon coolscan, but one day it will just quit.

fotonutzz Posted March 14, 2023 Share #26 Posted March 14, 2023 A Leica rep told me last Dec that Leica will be releasing the Macro lens in Mar/Apr. Let's hope it's true..... However, I get this feeling it's a rebadged Sigma 100mm DG DN Macro.

At least as far as I have been able to tell in my fairly short time with the 105mm...
siddhaarta Posted March 14, 2023 Share #28 Posted March 14, 2023 Currently I am using the Zeiss ZF2 Makro-Planar 50mm f/2.0 (also sold as Milvus lens). I like it a bit more than the Leica R Macro-Elmarit which I used previously. First I had my doubts if I would like the 50mm FL, but it is quite interesting and gives the macro shots new perspectives. It is quite compact and has a stunning mechanical quality, a real joy for focus stacking.
NickT Posted March 15, 2023 Share #29 Posted March 15, 2023 I have been using the Laowa 100mm f2.8 2x macro L mount lens in combination with a Nikon ES-2 digitizing adapter. This has a holder for 35mm slides and negatives.

buj Posted May 23, 2023 Share #32 Posted May 23, 2023 I use the Sigma 105 Macro - and I'm very happy - no problems works fine. I used to use the R 60mm Macro but sometimes AF really useful.

roverover Posted June 9, 2023 Share #35 Posted June 9, 2023 I've been using the Leica APO-Macro-Elmarit-TL 60mm lens, which works very well on SL bodies. It's a 90mm equivalent on Full Frame cameras and has a 1:1 reproduction ratio. It can focus down to 6" and will autofocus if desired.

It mostly works fine, but for rapidly moving subjects (particularly at short distances); deformations may occur. I made a comparison with SL2-S and Canon R5 on flying birds some time back; with R5 showing much reduced deformation due to short readout time from the sensor. Hopefully new incarnations of SL-bodies will have shorter readout times, reducing (and eventuelly eliminating) these effects. Actually, Nikon Z9 has electronic shutter only.

It's not going to be a good as a true macro lenses but seems to work OK and doesn't take a lot of space.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members!
