28framelines Posted February 28, 2023 Share #1 Posted February 28, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have seen the Leica 35mm Summicron v2 seems to allow e39 filters, but I’m wondering if the v3 does as well. I’m worried it only allows the Series 7 filters which, to my knowledge, there is not an adapter between Series 7 and e39 though correct me if I’m wrong. Advertisement Posted February 28, 2023 Posted February 28, 2023 Hi 28framelines, Take a look here Does the Leica 35mm Summicron v3 allow e39 filters?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted February 28, 2023 Share #2 Posted February 28, 2023 AFAIK the Summicron 35/2 v3 # 11309 did accept both E39 filters and Series VII together with 12504 hood but some rare copies accepted only Series VII. I have no idea how to recognize them though. I would ask on the Collectors & Historica forum to be sure.

dpitt Posted February 28, 2023 Share #4 Posted February 28, 2023 My Summicron 35 v3 (27x) accepts E39 filters on the lens. And you can use the hood on almost any Leica 35mm, so all of these can also accept a Series VII filter inside the hood. The serial is one of the higher numbers for v3, I do not know if earlier versions were different.
grahamc Posted February 28, 2023 Share #5 Posted February 28, 2023 (edited) Hello . My v3 accepts E39 filters. I thought they all do but could be wrong. As far as I know it is the v2 has some without a filter thread. Unsure whether that was by design or by mistake but there are certainly some v2 around with no thread. FWIW The 12504 hood fits on all of the E39 35mm summicron lenses (v1 to v4), so it can also be handy to use that with a Serie 7 or thin 49mm filter in it (the hood accepts both). luigi bertolotti Posted February 28, 2023 Share #6 Posted February 28, 2023 (edited) Lager indeed writes (in his book on lenses) thet several items in the batch 2461001-2461800 do lack the E39 filter thread... (# 2461275 is displayed); apparently Leitz whished to "impose" the Series filters with hood... according to him, customers complaints did emerge, and they made again the usual thread. I think it's one of the "odd choices" of the Ontario factory... like the 1st batch of Summicron 90 with the diaphragm ring unaccessible with hood retracted... 🤒 Edited February 28, 2023 by luigi bertolotti 1

01af Posted March 2, 2023 Share #8 Posted March 2, 2023 According to Erwin Puts' Leica Compendium, all 35 mm Summicron lenses for Leica M (from 1958 on) take E39 filters.
lct Posted March 2, 2023 Share #9 Posted March 2, 2023 (edited) There is a v2 sans filter thread on e**y currently. Edited March 2, 2023 by lct

There isa series adapter on eBay but I would advise against it as it is made of aluminum and tends to bind.
