frame-it Posted February 20, 2023 Share #1 Posted February 20, 2023 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) saw this today, quite a substantial price increase... https://www.shopmoment.com/reviews/why-kodak-film-prices-are-increasing-whats-changing-what-isnt https://kosmofoto.com/2022/12/new-kodak-alaris-price-rises-announced-for-march-2023/ """"The price rises from Kodak Alaris – the company which sells photographic film made by Eastman Kodak – come amid continuing supply problems for Kodak-branded films, as the US giant has struggled to meet continuing demand, especially for colour films, amid a global pandemic. The pandemic was largely blamed for earlier rises announced over the past three years. However, this latest price rise seems to be partly due to recent Eastman Kodak’s investment in film production. In October, Eastman Kodak said it wanted to hire more people for its film production division as demand for film continues to soar. Nagraj Bokinkere, Eastman Kodak’s vice-president of film manufacturing, made the plea while appearing on the Get Real podcast for Great Rochester Enterprise, a business hub in the New York-state city where the film producer is based. He said the film maker had already taken on more than 300 new employees over the previous 18 months. In addition, Kosmo Foto has learned that Eastman Kodak has also been upgrading finishing equipment, which has been a stumbling block for increasing production to meet demand""" Welcome, dear visitor! Einst_Stein Posted February 20, 2023 Share #2 Posted February 20, 2023 Now I shoot Kodak Vision 3 Color Movie films (50D, 200T). The B&H price seems still stable though I normally buy short-end from Mono No Aware, which is usually cheaper and more flexible than B&H. You can buy in 100ft quality. I strongly encourage power Color users to try Kodak Vision 3. For B&W, Kodak long last and good old Double-X is about 85$/100ft. Though it is a movie film, it does not have ramjet (as ECN-2 does). You can process it like normal B&W.

Einst_Stein Posted February 20, 2023 Share #4 Posted February 20, 2023 B&H sell double-x in 400ft but you'll have to cut it into 100ft per piece to use the bulk loader. Or ask Mono No Aware for short-end. Usually they quote the price per 100ft. You can order multiple pieces to save the S&H.
jonnyboy Posted February 20, 2023 Share #5 Posted February 20, 2023 I can't take it anymore with those prices constantly increasing. I think they been trying to milk it way too much. Ilford/Kentmere and Fomapan please don't let us down.
malligator Posted February 21, 2023 Share #6 Posted February 21, 2023 I thought the 2023 price hike had already happened. I've been buying a five pack of Portra 400 every month that I've found it in stock. It recently jumped from $65 to $80. That was bad enough. It's really going to $90+? That's nuts. Steve Ricoh Posted February 24, 2023 Share #8 Posted February 24, 2023 Film is quickly becoming a rich person’s sport. 😳 I’m glad to say I have enough in the fridge to see me out, my wife can sell the rest (expired film seems to be more valuable than fresh - just look at the prices on eBay). I should pay more attention to those emails from Speed Graphic, my long-term favourite supplier of photo accessories, though usually not the cheapest for film (back when we had a choice and everyone had stock). I see their Ektachrome is already £26.95 a roll, so we are well over £1 a frame after processing and a basic scan.
wattsy Posted February 24, 2023 Share #10 Posted February 24, 2023 I bought a 5 pack of Portra 400 for £75 the other day. It's been that kind of price (or more) for the past couple of years so an increase to £90 or so isn't going to stop me from continuing to use it. In truth, I'm glad to hear that Kodak has been recruiting and investing in plant. I shall have to have a look at expired film prices on eBay because I have a freezer drawer full of frozen (mostly expired) E6 and B&W film that I will likely never use. Maybe I can sell some of it to buy the increasingly expensive film that I do use.😂

newtoleica Posted February 28, 2023 Share #12 Posted February 28, 2023 Just nabbed two bulk rolls of Tri-X from analogue wonderland at £170 each - that works out at just over £9 a roll. Will keep me happy for a bit, but definitely not a cheap B&W film any more.

Anbaric Posted March 4, 2023 Share #14 Posted March 4, 2023 You can still find HP5 36 exp cassettes in multi-packs for under £7 a roll, so Tri-X would be a pretty hard sell to me these days.
Steve Ricoh Posted March 4, 2023 Share #15 Posted March 4, 2023 A quick search just now, Formapan 400 and Kentmere 400 are each selling for under £5 a roll. Defects some say, but the defects should be welcomed as being verification of the analogue medium.
