markc2 Posted October 27, 2023 Share #202 Posted October 27, 2023 (edited) WOW, these are all beautiful photo's. I am inch away of buying a used M8 and I was wondering what adapter is the safest to use for either the 35 or 50mm elmar. There is also an Elmar 35 and 50 for sale near me and well after seeing this I would like to hop on the appreciation train:-) Thanks Mark Edited October 27, 2023 by markc2

These are well made from Japan. Or there are less expensive ones from Light lens Lab, made in China, https://www.popflash.com/adapters/light-lens-lab-ltm-m-mount-adapter-35mm/135mm-framelines-new/. I have used brands and they all work properly. Just make sure you get the correct one so that it brings up the correct frame line in your M8 rangefinder.

jaques Posted December 10, 2023 Share #206 Posted December 10, 2023 the red scale Elmar 50 was the least expensive leica lens I have ever owned- by a long margin. I found one at a flea market for just measly $5! This thread has inspired me to get it out and take it for a spin... Welcome, dear visitor! If doubt, give it a CLA service, it can be used in any M bodies. BTW, according to the serial number, your copy was made in 1952 in a batch of 4000 copies. I've had and used it for years now- it's in perfect working condition. When I got it I cleaned the focus hellicoid and lubricated with silicon grease. Glass is near perfect. very happy. Also have the 35/3.5 another amazing little jewel of a lens with great chracter: Welcome, dear visitor! gaheris Posted December 21, 2023 Share #210 Posted December 21, 2023 (edited) Thank you to the OP for getting this thread up and running. I am in love with the elmar 35.cm 3.5. This is the only Leica lens I have bought thrice. First one was an uncoated pre-war copy, then I got the summicron bug and sold it to fund my summicron ( and the lux) journey. After a week or so I missed the Elmar badly and bought another one. Some time later, a camera tech I frequented told me how every elmar lover must get the coated version, and I began my hunt. Now I am a happy user of a 1948 Elmar 3.5cm 3.5. It has got great character, unobstrusive on the street and there is just a unique painterly quality unique which you cannot get from another 35. pegelli Posted December 21, 2023 Share #212 Posted December 21, 2023 The first (serious) camera I got was when my father gave me his IIIf and Elmar 50/3.5 when I was 15. The IIIf was later exchanged for an M2 but I still have (and use) the 50/3.5. A great lens for such a simple design, Only the helicoil developed a little play over it's now 74 year life From a visit to Bw Rheine in the early 1970's where steam was still very much used those days.
