I’ve tried all Leica 35 and 50mm lenses, and yet I keep coming back to the lenses that started it all, the Elmar 50mm f3.5 and the 35mm f3.5. Just thought of starting a thread for people to share their shots with Leica’s first 50mm & 35mm lens, which are still great shooters today, almost 100y later since their release. I’ll start Elmar 50mm f3.5 | Leica M3

I have recently taken an interest in exploring the performance of older Leitz lenses. These are images from a 35mm Elmar, F3.5 (1941, uncoated) on my M9. The lens was not coded. All images shot at f3.5, full frame, unedited in PP. The Elmar clearly is not a Summilux ASPH-FLE, but, for a 1941 uncoated lens, the results are not bad at all! Guy

Taken, complete with ludicrous vignetting, with my Elmar 35mm rather too wide open, but I like the wistful lean of the central gentleman, and the blurred features of the driver as the train glides past and away... Tri-X HC110 M2 Elmar 35mm Actually a really rubbish scan... Must check that out. Jim.

Recently returned from a grey and wet holiday on Skye. However - nothing wrong with that if one has the waterproofs! We stay in a cottage with all this directly outside the window - just us, no other houses in sight. FP4 in ID11 ok, but I think I'm heading back to Tri-X and HC110.
