I’m not at all a fan of people posting shots of their pets, but this is way beyond that: an astounding good portrait!! The idea that this would be a dog or a human being or whatever living creature isn’t relevant anymore because we are looking at the soul/character/individuality or whatever you like to call it of a living creature who is relating to the viewer.

Thank you Otto.  I am really pleased that you see it as more than a picture of a pet dog.  I've enjoyed taking his portrait but unfortunately he has now got fed up posing for me!

WHEN STORMS ARRIVE

When storms arrive,
With their incessant rains;
Sometimes strong, sometimes tender,
Sometimes with winds that terrify,
Sometimes with a gentle breeze that kisses the skin,
Thousands of drops splash,
into a choreographed dance,
On the surface of what used to be,
Trillions of rain drops falling from the sky.

Each drop falls, free and without care,
Forming interspersed circles;
Drops that splash on the water, and for a moment assume a circular shape,
Before returning to the sea that seduces them, for just a little while;
And one good day, they will return to the sky,
Transformed into clouds clamoring with thunder.

And once again drops will fall,
Sometimes strong, sometimes tender,
Sometimes with winds that terrify,
Sometimes with a gentle breeze that kisses the skin…

Thanks very much, Tim. Took that shot yesterday. Slightly bittersweet angle to it - it's my girlfriend's horse, Conker. He's almost 30, and he's reached the point where he's pretty much on his last legs. If he lies down, he can't get back up, all that sort of thing. They've been putting it off, but the vet is now coming next Friday to put him down. My girlfriend is very upset, but wanted a nice photo of him before he goes.

I don't know the horse very well, but it's undeniably sad. He seemed happy in the field with the other horses. At least he doesn't know what's coming.

Cheers,

Colin

Wow, his eyes don’t look that old!

I know - I'm no horse expert, but I'm assured he's had his day. In fairness, when you see him next to the other horses, his ribs show, he sags everywhere, he looks finished. I was trying to get his best side, so left all that out!

But taking his picture reminded me why most of us pick up a camera - we're trying to hold onto something, preserve it, because we know it's ephemeral. Really was reminded of that yesterday.

Sad.  30 is old for a horse, though, and he looks healthy, so he's obviously had a good life.

So true about photography.  That's what makes it so beautiful and unique.

While riding my bike yesterday I noticed this Fibonacci spiral when a cyclist rode through the tunnel. It reminded me of a photograph made in Hyères in 1932 by a certain French photographer. I made a few photographs and returned today to the same spot because the light was a little softer.  MM (Henri, appropriately) and 50 Lux.
