Do you have the feeling that some parts of the later camera are not the same as on the earlier ones?

Seems like exactly the same camera.

Interesting… this is all conjecture but perhaps Leica at this stage of the M11’s lifecycle they might be going through a hardware cost reduction exercise (where hardware components might be coming down in price or alternative components are becoming available, or vice versa in that some original components are no longer available or have gotten more expensive). It’s an interesting decision to have it supported by a unique firmware version though…   For those with 1.6.2, if you had to reset your camera and reinstall firmware, where would you get a copy of 1.6.2?

Right, I’m not sure if this is normal for Leica or not. I have only been with Leica since the M10-P timeframe.

Resetting the camera doesn’t involve reloading the software. And we’ve never been able to reload the current firmware anyway have we?

I doubt this has anything to do with cost cutting.
Sounds like the faulty component that was causing the freezes has been replaced by something similar in function but different enough in configuration that cameras with the new component need slightly updated firmware. Just a guess.

All we know for sure is the new part doesn't improve performance or functionality.

But I'm very interested to see if anyone reports freezing with cameras delivered with 1.6.2.

Scroll a couple of pages of this thread up, you will see someone has 1.6.2 freeze

Hopefully we can hear from others as well. When I see one report from someone with a low post count, I want to see a few more to confirm and rule out things like someone with a bad SD card moving it from one camera to the next.

New YouTube video where subject of freezes and random over exposures is discussed:

https://youtu.be/TelfCDHx4-s?si=l19n38mukaF3-2gR

Edit: no real new update beside him mentioning that Leica has no idea how to reproduce the issues, therefore as of right now this is impossible to fix

Hey, I received the camera last October, and about a month later, the 1.6 update was released, which I immediately installed. Approximately two months after that, the 1.6.1 update came out, which resolved my M11 dementia issue. So, all the issues I showed in the video occurred with firmware 1.6 and older.

Oh interesting... especially since he released that video few hours ago only, and decided to put it out without editing in that information. Too bad new update still haven't resolved my freezing issues.

Good morning,

An important element that I have seen very little discussed: the connection with the Leica Photos application during shooting in order to benefit from Geotagging of the photos.
I'm wondering if the hangs occurred due to the Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi connections between my Android phone and the M 11

Not sure with the android sides, but my iphone 11 pro connects seamlessly with the M11 for its geotagging purposes

Maybe we need a spreadsheet of possible parameters that could cause freezing & people can mark them off in their row for their M11 freeze experience

Not an M11 owner, but been on the fence with the level of issues reporting..

I'd mock up a sheet that looks something like this-

It may turn out there's some subset of features that the "I've never ever had a single freeze in 1 year" owners are avoiding, and if it was widely known we could do likewise.

I suspect this is all software and there's some sort of race condition, specific to use cases.  The thing that makes this seem likely is you have a number of people who have had multiple replacement cameras with different production dates all end up freezing, as well as people who have never had a single freeze.  I don't think its a piece of hardware that goes bad or is defective.

And I'd be remiss in not adding a few columns for

SD card brand/size/model

Battery state - 100% / 20% / etc

I bought a used M11 about a month ago. I have experienced freezing several times but in the last few days I noticed it seems to happen only when my lens cap was on.  Shooting aperture priority… not suggesting there isn’t a freezing issue but I wonder how many are actuallly  accidental long exposures with the noise reduction running and not noticing the message. Powering off won’t cancel it either!

Thought I’d bring my M11 back for Boxing Day to grab some pictures of my nephew today, probably shouldn’t have bothered.

Second body for freezing, second battery that failed and they replace, second charger that failed and they replaced. Had persevered with this second body which does keep freezing but less so than the first, but this freezing stuff today the last straw to deal with, sending back to the retailer and they said they will deal with Leica to find a solution, whatever that means.

Only removing the battery clears the freezing. Happens whether i have an SD (Sandisk extreme pro 300MB/s) in there or not have had it happen both ways. Battery was 90% charged, latest firmware.
