Anyone come across this one?

I find live view and focus peaking useful for framing up things that are too close for the rangefinder, and I use it a reasonable amount. Was using the M11 this morning, focus peaking was fine. Now the peaking confirmation lines have vanished.

I've tried changing the colour of the peaking from red to green, selecting focus peaking off, then putting it back on, pulled the battery a couple of times, pulled the SD card. Don't know what else to do. Am I missing something (aside from focus peaking)?

If you mean this icon you may wish to press the center button to display it.

Thank you. I was definitely getting that icon, along with the information strips at top and bottom of the screen, but no peaking information. The reset has fixed it.

There was another slight fly in the ointment too. When zooming out from an image on the LCD, it's supposed to show a grid of 12 thumbnails, then you zoom out further and you get a grid of 30 thumbnails. I noticed that if I tried to zoom out from certain individual images, the LCD would freeze on just that one image and the camera would be locked. Switching the camera off wouldn't fix it - the orange LED on the back would stay on and the camera would stay locked, unable to switch back on. Only a battery pull would fix it.

The reset - first I've done - seems to have fixed all of that. Kind of hoping that Leica are working on a further firmware upgrade though, to smooth these glitches out. My M11 is not anywhere near as reliable as my nearly 11-year-old M9M, which works flawlessly, and is totally dependable.

Never got such issues with my digital Ms so far but i have no experience with the M9. It was not free from freezes though according to the links below. BTW as a common point between my freeze-free M8.2, M240 & M11, i format all my cards with SD Card Formatter for a good ten years. FWIW, YMMV, etc. ;)

Not to mistake for the default user profile which cannot be modified by the user. Any idea where to find this "Default" wording BTW? Just curious.

Sorry, I just called it default because once I change a setting, it no longer shows the profile I had selected but instead a generic icon. I guess that generic icon has no name. I would prefer it to show the profile name/number with a plus next to it. That way at least I could see what user profile I had been using before I changed a setting.

Yeah happened to me, i dont usually use liveview except when scanning my negative, but i still could focus on point so cant be bugged.. and i have 3 liveview profiles, to each one dont give me the peaking though it was enabled… as far as memory goes, it was there before

yesterday went on to shoot with the FLE II which i had to use liveview since i focused closer than 0.7mm luckily the liveview got stabilized, otherwise i’d be pulling my hair..

cant be botherrd resetting camera

Sorry to hear that, although it's slightly reassuring that it's not just my M11. I was initially a bit like you, I found I could still nail the focus with the stabilised and magnified area, but it just kept bothering me that the peaking aid had vanished.

It occurs to me that, as far as I remember, there's no re-set function in the M9M menu, and the camera always seems to work with no glitches. Pulling the battery is how you re-set it. Maybe the inclusion of a re-set option in the M11 menu is an admission of sorts, that issues with the software are a feature of the camera. Or perhaps it's just a more refined option than pulling the battery.

You may wish to check that this icon is displayed when setting up user profiles including focus peaking.

@colint544 im still using it happily despite all these issues.. had one freezes after some weeks or months without one.. but as long as it aint bricked, im still oke.. happened when i was in high paced shooting scenario.. but only one freeze and after that i still continued high pace shooting and just fine

You mean the icon was displayed at the very moment you were setting your profile? Are you sure it was not hidden then? Just asking as the same happened to me and i can redo it at will

The icon was visible but not the peaking. Just did scan my negatives moments ago

Strange indeed.

Seemed like less sensitive or whatsoever, i did compare with my M10 r, the peaking was more visible, thought the medium i was shooting was the culprit, but the negatives allegedly give more contrast to produce the peaking but im oke

  • 2 weeks later...

I’ve shot thousands of photos on my M11 without issue until today, after taking several photos in succession I go to take another photo and…nothing. No response from the camera. The camera is on/metering and everything. Had to pull the battery.

This was the only time I’ve been shooting with internal memory (no SD in the camera). I always use SD card only.

Interesting thank you. Do you mean SD card only was the storage option when the freeze occurred? Just curious.

My M11 rarely freezes all things considered.. but i stretched my luck and kept shooting on quick successions with a single mode shoots, and bang! It freezes..

well at least if i know how far it will go, i might avoid it later, that was my intention

have been using sony sdcard UHS II 300mb/s
