I am now on my 3rd M11 after 2 replacements.  The first one was purchased new the day before Thanksgiving, Nov. 24 of this year. When I open the box for the first time, I saw that the function button and mounting post (beside the ON/OFF switch) was sticking up about ¼" above the M11's top plate. I gently pressed it down, where it stayed. On occasion, the shutter would lock up a few times in my only day of using it. That camera seemed to otherwise operate OK afterwards, but it didn't show more than one function options that could be selected. Leica Customer Care speculated that a c-clip had come loose from the function button stem, and I should mail it back to them for a repair. I really had a problem paying $9,000 for a new camera and immediately having to send it away for repair. Instead, I took that first M11 back to my local dealer and swapped it for the other new M11 in their store. That second M11 locked up quite a few times on 2 days of use, would not let me turn it off (except by removing the battery), and very oddly, recorded a third of my day's images "upside down" on the viewfinder, and when downloaded to my computer. After quite a few phone calls and e-mails to Leica Customer Care, they offered to send me a pre-paid shipping label, and mail be a new (3rd) M11. I've had the 3rd M11 now for a week and it seems to be fine, and included the new firmware installed. This was a frustrating re-entry back to Leica M, but, I do thank Leica Customer Care for their responsiveness.

Sometimes the replacement is worse than the first, but hopefully it’s sorted out now

At least it does not scratch the film like the new M6 re-issue...
But dry humor aside, there were issues for real. This brand new one had the internal OVF display all messed up.
Frustrating indeed.

are there some cases with the m6 reissue? Thought only the MP late batches that scratch films

That's bad luck. I am on my first M11. Trouble-free so far.

Lockups is often caused by a SD-card. Try another card, preferably another brand to rule out compatibility issues.

Batteries seem to be a silent contributor too... quite a few people have batteries with charging peculiarities, where charging lights are not doing what they should, or not able to charge to full... but batteries with poor power management would also cause havoc in camera. I would say SD cards and batteries should be treated with equal suspicion for lockups.

I'm on my third M11 too after a faulty Leica M10M Wetzlar that couldn't be replaced due to no stock...

My first M11 had a disparity where the rangefinder frame lines and sensor weren't quite matched and my images always had a slight rotation to how I aligned my images in the rangefinder. It also had a plastic baffle or window that looked bit skew in the rangefinder when viewed from the front.

The second had a bad case of sensor bifurcation down the middle of the image.

I just received an APO Summicron-M 50mm ASPH on the 24th and it didn't take long to establish that its a lemon. Much more CA than expected. the right side has strong astigmatism versus the left side. Lens can't focus to infinity and can't yield a sharp image until f/5.6 at infinity. It's maybe a little more than 1 stop better than my Summicron-M 50mm V in longitudinal CA. Very disappointing. Amongst the other issues I had with (new) 2 Summilux 50 ASPH, Summicron 35 ASPH II, APO Summicron 75mm and Summilux 35mm ASPH FLE...  all since November 2021!!!

I'm so over the Leica QC lottery. Meanwhile I've only had one lemon lens from Voigtlander amongst 7 lenses so far.

I had to return my M11 due to the screen having micro scratches, I was really shocked by this as my Sony A73 is a few years old and got a ton of usage and still has no screen protector and no scratches.

Scratches that were there on delivery or scratches that occurred during use?

Scratches on delivery as the camera was never used.

They should really upgrade the quality of the screen like Apple and Sony.

Micro scratches are not acceptable in a 9k product even if it has usage.

I agree.

At that price level they ought to have sapphire ideally - which I think they did on the M9P.

  • 2 weeks later...

Today I ordered the last M10-R (in black chrome) available new in box in NZ.

My plan is to enjoy that and see what the M11-P brings us. At the moment, the 11 platform is not quite reliable enough for me to spend that much on it. I got a resonable discount on the 10-R as well, so that made it an easier choice.

I imagine the 11-P will be announced later this year and in the shops for Q4 so they will have had plenty of time to get it sorted by then - I hope!

I think part of what we experience here may be coming from the covid lockdowns and different way of working.

Hopefully they are finding their rhythm

Lol. What a joke this comment is.
