Do we know for sure that an MP is the "same camera?"  I realize it makes sense that other than the rewind and the top plate it IS the same camera components for both but is that actually verified?

When I get my M6 back, at least I can check to see if the pressure plate is the same as that on my MP.

I bought an MP from Leica America in June.  Had problems with dark band on one side or no exposure at all. Turns out the shutter did not open at 1/500 and 1/1000 and sometimes was slow to open at 1/250.  I returned it to NJ in September.  It took 12 weeks to be returned.  Even though it was defective as sold by Leica, it was placed at the end of the queue.  I don’t know what the quality control function does other than sign a card.

I had this issue on an M2 body recently. Turns out the body was shutter capping and just needed a service to recalibrate the shutter. I took it to an independent film camera repair specialist in London and they fixed it in under 2 weeks.

I don't have any problem lumping together new M6, MP, and M-A stats on this issue although we need to keep a count of the numbers in each group just in case. Leica cameras are not made on an assembly line. Each camera is assembled by a trained technician at his or her bench. So unless the new M6 is made by a set of technicians that have never worked on an MP or M-A, i.e., new recruits, there's no issue. They'll be working from a common set of parts for most of the camera.

The MP and M-A cameras have also scratched film in the past, I've been working through the I love my MP and I love my M-A threads and that's what they report. No one bothered to count statistics and these threads praise their cameras because other threads are reporting the problems. Can I say that some of the cameras are truly beautiful.

Yes but you cannot have everything with a Leica!

I haven't included your camera one way or the other, as the idea was to count scratchers.  But it is a new defective camera, so?..  I'll add it to the not good column.
