Arte di Mano case arrived last week. This is purely for the improved handling and grip since the new M6 paint is slicker than a (insert saying of your choice). I wish they had made the new M6 paint textured like the M11 — same paint but it’s obviously a different application.

Now just waiting on my first four rolls to come back from the lab.

Nice camera.

Slightly off topic, but how do you like the Sixtomat?  I've been thinking about picking one up to keep in my second camera bag.

I have the flash version of that. They are really nice meters, slim and pocketable with a very clear display. My older meter uses whole stop increments and readings are reported in whole and 1/10 stops; the current F2 versions can also use conventional 1/2 and 1/3 stop increments. To make it as compact as possible the metering cell and sliding incident dome are at right angles to the display; there is also a 'Digipro' with a swivel head if you prefer to have the incident dome parallel with the display, at the expense of making the meter a bit less pocketable.

M6 reissue, 50 Lux BC, TMax 400, B+W Orange kind of day.

So far the new M6 has been flawless and enjoyable to use.

Been using the ADM case less and less as it makes the camera look and feel much larger than it is.

The fake leather cladding is very grippy, but the black paint is too slick. It’s supposedly the same paint used on the M11, but the application to the M6 leaves a perfectly smooth surface. It feels a lot like an anodized black camera like the Q or SL cameras, though the paint is noticeably thicker than anodized. I really wish they had instead toned down the m11 paint texture to the point where it felt exactly like black chrome. That’s about my only complaint specific to the M6.

In general, the somewhat basic meter in Leica film cameras make exposing for slide film difficult when the lighting is tricky. I think I will be sticking with color negative film moving forward except for perhaps to try out a few rolls of Ektar to see if it’s less particular than Ektachrome.

Leica USA has two copies of the new M6 in stock if anyone is looking. They seem to be receiving exactly two every other month.

They have every film camera in stock except the BP MP.

With the M6, the family is complete—one for B&W (the M4P) and one for colour.

I also am the privileged owner of a M6,  M4-P (anniversary 1983 edition) and also a M4 (1975 anniversary edition) and of the three I must admit that the ”plain” M4, equipped with a 21 mm Super Angulon f3,4 is my favourite by far.

It is said somewhere I believe, that ”one shouldn’t favourise one of one’s kids” but even though I love the other two just as much, the M4 is the one that is the most ”me”…

In my case, that's probably the M6. But I find the M4-P not a lesser camera. As it comes without a light meter, it's more suited for precise shoots that require more thinking. M6 = documentary work, family snaps, daily carry. M4-P = second unit and planned stuff.

That said, both suffer from focus patch flaring, like a lot. I'm thinking of upgrading that. Can anyone give a ballpark of the costs? Thanks!!

Hi everyone,

help me rediscover my M6.Since I bought Nikon FM3a SLR I dislike shoot with my M6.I like the feeling, the lens, but this tight frame lines… I have 72 viewfinder and I even have genuine zoom magnifier of 1.25.

Even with it I can’t feel the comfort I have wit the SLR seeng the frame, I mean I have to find some perspective angle to shoot, it is like everything happens much before me, with the SLR I have the feeling I’m in the frame.

George, don’t torture yourself. If you are not feeling comfortable with the M6, sell it and use the money you will get for traveling and shooting with you FM3a, which is a wonderful camera, too. Photography should be inspirational and fun, and no one „needs“ a Leica - it’s just a tool😉!

I thing to give a try with 28mm Elmarit, when I switch the lever to preview 28mm frames I feel very comfortable .

Being rangefinder Leica m6 has the advantage over SLRs in terms of lower shutter speed w/out shaking 1/60 even 1/30 which is hard to achieve with any SLR.
Another thing I dislike in M6 is the manual metering, I can’t understand how a manual metering camera is so preferable for street photography where a fast reactionis needed. Some times I pre-meter, but if there is a shadow or stronger light I have to adjust the aperture, than the focus and the moment is gone.

The Leica M7 can be shot in aperture priority mode. Personally I prefer the M7 over the M6 for streetphotography. I want a camera that gets “out of the way” when I am on the street taking photos. Given this, the M6 is okay-ish but pretty cumbersome compared to the M7.

Yeah for speedy photography in changing light conditions M7 is the way to go.  Or your FM3A.

The M6 is a great camera, but if it doesn't work for you sell it on and use what works.

Like others said, M6 is not for your photography style. Sell it and use fraction of that money to buy a Fuji x100v or Ricoh GR, those are for discreet and speedy street photographing
