philipus Posted December 2, 2016 Share #1101 Posted December 2, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) You devil, you From what I understand both SA versions are very fine lenses. I've always liked the images taken with them and metaphorically drool every time J-M and others post them in the film thread. It will be interesting to hear your thoughts on how it compares in use with the SWC. Here's another of my TTL, from when I was housebound with a flu and evidently very bored. Found the film in a shop in Croatia quite unexpectedly, which made my day. Flickr 203FE 80/2.8 Portra 400 (wet mount) Thank you Philip, long story as always. I bought a nice 21/3.4 a while back, no finder, and in average condition, nice but not real nice. I never really liked it, no idea why, and I sold/swapped it. This 21/4 and finder was listed at "my local" and I decided to try it again. F4 Vs F3.4? No idea if either is better/worse, time will tell. I'd actually asked Eoin to try the comparison 21mm on the M against the SWC, similar FOV's, apart from square neg/rectangular neg. Now I can try this myself. If the 21 bonds, then it will mean I can possibly leave the SWC behind next year when we have coffee. No, metering is either problematic or not possible, I just guess.Gary

sixteen pads Posted January 1, 2017 Share #1105 Posted January 1, 2017 (edited) Happy New Year to the M6 clan I just picked up a very used but extremely charming M6 classic few days ago. Just got my first negatives processed yesterday. Few test frames to see if it worked. I shot expired Konica film. Scanned them myself. I figured I would share few of them. SilentShutter Posted January 2, 2017 Share #1106 Posted January 2, 2017 Let me say that I just love them all and would like at least one of each. Agree. Started with a Leica M4-2 because I couldnt affort a M6 these days. Own all from M3 (SS/DS) and M4-2/P and later some M6 too. Still prefer the M3 in combination with the 135mm over all. *Duck & Run

Steve Ricoh Posted January 17, 2017 Share #1112 Posted January 17, 2017 For someone considering an M6, is silver or black the harder wearing? I'd hate to see the zinc substrate showing through, and ideally would want a brass top and bottom plate, in which case I think brassing looks pretty damn cool. The older silver wears better, not sure if it's the same finish in the M6s though... If you want brass top, you're looking at a few of the M6 TTLs, and I believe only in black paint. All M6s apart from a very few early ones have a brass baseplate, the zinc ones weren't flexible enough and broke, so we're changed back to brass.
Steve Ricoh Posted January 17, 2017 Share #1114 Posted January 17, 2017 The black paint M6 TTL owned by Philipus (shown in post #1101) looks the business. Could be wrong, but it looks like brass showing through. Nice!
wattsy Posted January 17, 2017 Share #1115 Posted January 17, 2017 If you want brass top, you're looking at a few of the M6 TTLs, and I believe only in black paint. Some of the very last M6TTLs in black and silver chrome reputedly have a brass top though I think official documentation of this is scant to non-existent. The official final 999 M6TTLs (which were presented in a wooden box, if I remember correctly, and sold after the introduction of the M7) do by most accounts have a brass top.
Steve Ricoh Posted January 17, 2017 Share #1116 Posted January 17, 2017 Any idea what the start serial number is of the last 999 ?

Could be wrong, but it looks like brass showing through. Nice! Yep, black paint M6 TTLs, like the LHSA and Millennium special editions are brass. For the serial # range for the last 999, check out the wiki or maybe the Camera Quest website? But, it could be in 20 years once the chrome has worn down that it is only Zn... If you really want brass, you're better off getting an MP, which is really just a brass M6, rather than taking the gamble on a TTL that might be brass. A decent MP will cost the same as a black paint special edition TTL too.
Steve Ricoh Posted January 17, 2017 Share #1118 Posted January 17, 2017 Yes indeed, but twice the price second hand!
michaelwj Posted January 18, 2017 Share #1119 Posted January 18, 2017 Yes indeed, but twice the price second hand! Actually an M6 Millennium is about the same price as a black paint MP in similar condition, with the LHSA about double, just from a quick glace at eBay. All of these are of course much more than a standard black chrome or silver chrome M6 TTL of course! How much do you want brass underneath..?

It's nice to have your M6 looking pristine while others are all brassed up. I personally can't stand the brass look, but it's all personal preference.
