This weekend I am on a mini break in Rome. Took only the mm with me to see if I may be should keep it.

Though I love its sound, for all the rest regarding making photos I prefer the m10m.

That said, I still have two days so maybe I change my mind…

So, for three months I have both mm’s. On my last little trip I took the m9m with me, and boy, do I enjoy the sound of the shutter.

But, cropping possibilities, iso, as well as buffersize is really limited in comparison with the m10m.

So, to me, I can’t find a reasonable reason the keep the m9m, despite it is my first real m. I’m to young for sentimental thoughts. I estimate I can get 2500€ which is a nice amount towards another lens…

That said, thank you for those who told me to keep the original for several months, sellers remorse is a bad thing and now I’m convinced about my decision.

Good decision!

  • 1 year later...

An update. In the end my mm went to a forum member here, and I used the m10m a lot. But, the files, though great for low light, never “got” me except for land/seascapes. Last year, I traded the m10m for a Q43.

But, I wanted a M as well, so bought a m8.2 and rebought a m9m. It might be slow, but I loved its files. An expensive lesson, though a fun one.

This time, the original will remain with me.

Over two years since my earlier comments, I still have the MM on the shelf, instead using the M10-M.  The M10-R typically sits on the shelf as well, while the SL2 serves as my complementary and more versatile camera, typically with the 24-90. The Q3-43 intrigues, but I’m reluctant to add a third system. If I did, at least the M10-R (BP) would go. As always for me, though, emphasis is on pics and prints, not so much the gear.

I had the M9 and was never in love with it. It made OK photographs, but I didn't really like it much. The M9 Monochrom didn't send me because it was, after all, just an M9 with a different sensor. When the M9 sensor corrosion problem hit mine, I sent it in to Leica USA. They offered me an excellent trade-in deal to get an M-P typ 240 ...

Lots of other stuff went on over the next half a dozen years and I ended up trying a Pixii in the Spring of 2022. The Pixii wasn't for me, but it convinced me that a monochrome camera was. I shipped the Pixii back and got lucky: my dealer friend had just one M10-M left. And I fell in love with it immediately: the M10-M just sees the way I want a camera to see. I liked it so much that in early 2023 bought an M10-R so that I could have a color M body that was as much the same as possible.

And that's where I still am, and I'm delighted with both these Ms ... I was just out shooting my usual schtick with the M10-M/green filter yesterday:

... And I use the M10-M about 2:1 over the M10-R. It really is nice to have the color camera, but it doesn't quite hit my buttons with the same intensity as the M10 Monochrom.

Upgrade? There is no question that the typ 240 and typ 262 on the way to the M10 were, for me, the right path from the M9. But I don't see the gains, so far, in the M10 to M11. The M10-M and M10-R do it fine. So far.
