Sold my Leica Q last week in mint condition and I am having severe separation anxiety.
I need to buy Leica Q in mint condition. But need help to decide: Should i buy Q or Q2?
I have watched some reviews on YouTube that the colors / rendering and 24MP is a sweeter spot than Q2?
Should I wait for Q3, launching most probably early next year? Due to my anxiety I will most probably buy either Leica Q or Q2 asap and buy Q3 next year as second camera if the upgrades are worthy.
Any help would be appreciated and make me calm until I get Leica back in my Palm.

There’s always another bigger better deal coming….which is irrelevant because when do you need it? My Q2 is my adventure buddy, and the Q would be as well. You can find deals on either used, and get back to creating

I agree.

Q2, more resolution.

Q, better dynamic range.

Both have their strong points.

Either one is far better than a future Q3 if you need a camera today.

The Q2 is worth it over the Q for the extra pixels (if you use the cropping facility - unnecessary if you stick to 28mm) and for the OIS.

It's not up to the SL2 (or CL for that matter) for AF face/eye recognition, so if that is important for you, you might wait for the Q3, in hope.

A Q3 early next year would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath.

AF face/recognition is a issue on Q. Will you recommend to upgrade it to SL2? And if yes, which of the lenses would you recommend? I use mostly the camera for travel, street and private photos. Thanks in advance!

Heck, the SL2 is huge, especially if you travel, and even more so if you put a lens on it.

I am a big GAS fan.  Sold my Q ages ago and used the M system mostly.  Got into the SL and TL system and got rid of those.  Just got the Q2 for a Thanksgiving trip to NYC to visit all my children.  I only print up to 17"x22" so the Q and Q2 are more than enough.  Being a gear addict as well, will sell the Q2 for the Q3 for no other logical reason than wanting the latest.  I do expect in camera charging and BSI so hopefully more dynamic range but admittedly this would not be much use on print media.  The 28mm POV is one of my favorites so the Q/Q2/Q3 fits the bill for me.  Don't wait for any camera that is anticipated if even in the next few weeks/months.  New Leica models sell out quickly and early so as I need the camera now, would buy what is available now and worry about the new model 6 months after introduction so supply would be more ample.

If you don't make large prints, 24mp is enough.  If you do make large prints, 47mp is better.

I have not found that my Q2 files take up too much room on my hard drives.

The Q3 will allegedly come out some time in 2023; when it does, it will take 6-8 months or possibly longer for supply to catch up to demand.  With economic factors and potential shipping/transport/unloading/delivery problems, availability of the Q3 in a timely manner may become problematic.

If i were in your shoes, I would probably shop hard until I found a near mint used Q2 and grab it, then wait and see how things evolve with the Q3 and availability.  That way, you have a Q2 now without having to wait 6-12 months or more for the Q3.  JMHO, though.

The SL2 is a totally different camera: larger, heavier, interchangeable lenses. It is not an upgrade from a Q, it is a different species.

I have tried using the SL for travel and would not do so again. The Q2 is my travel and fun camera (before that the CL). The SL2-S is my working camera for when I want the best performance: portraits, events etc.

There's also something fun about the fixed focal length....it trains you as a photographer and you can focus on creating without lugging around a bunch of kit. The SL is a workhorse, the Q series you can use for work AND fun and it simplifies the process. Unless you're doing headshots, it's your go to. Printing.....yes, my 24 MP Fuji X100F made many beautiful gallery prints, even shooting JPG.

I spent 3 weeks with a Q2 on vacation in England and it worked really well. Even with low light and higher ISO you can crop without worries. I have no urge to replace it with a Q3 and will wait and see.

I wouldn’t bother with the SL2 as it’s an unwieldy brick of a camera and the opposite of “portability”.

I started with the Q and loved it enough to buy a CL and SL2-S. The Q 24mp wasn't enough to crop to 35/50mm for me which is why I got the CL to go with it. Then I found the CL not having IBIS/IS with lens longer then 50mm didn't work for me and the CL sensor wasn't as nice as the Q. So I got the SL2-s and while I loved the IBIS and sensor the camera was way too heavy. I had sold the Q when I went to the SL2-s to pay for it. I ended up moving on to other brands that had animal eye detect and much better autofocus. Right now I have a Canon r7 and r5 for birds, wildlife, pets, and action. I just ordered a Q2 to be my everyday carry around camera for more artistic use. Of the three Leica's I had owned the Q series is the best for my needs. I almost ordered the Q2m, and while I enjoy taking B&W images I'm not ready to lose the colors channels in editing them, yet. I think if I had started with a Q2 I would never had bought the other Leicas.

Well we all know that would be a lie... GAS happens and wanting to try new things is hard to avoid. I don't want to way two years for a Q3 to come out and be available. I had thought I wanted a 40mm/50mm lens but there are times you need 24-28mm and you can't go there with a longer lens. A tilt screen would be welcome if done nice and flush like on the fuji x100v. My knees are getting old that it's harder to get down to the ground for lower shots, but that's life and I will make do with the Q2. I expect I will have the Q2 for years before I even think about a Q3... If I didn't crop the Q would still be fine.

If you desire it now, buy it now and enjoy it now. (I'd go for a mint Q2 or that lovely grey special model that might hold its' value better compared to the many black ones.)

Same experience with postponed car purchases, waiting never makes sense, and at the end it only costs more.

And nobody knows what might happen to us tomorrow ...

I'm always grateful to find photographers with this preference, so I can buy their gently used ish :)

Both are great cameras though the Q2 has added benefits of more pixels, weather-sealed, bigger battery plus other improvements. Compared to my Sony's the AF the focussing system is really primitive especially when it comes to tracking and face/eye detection. The only reason I could really see a need to wait for a Q3 is if this sort of AF is important to you and then of course we don't know if they will be able to offer anything on par with Sony, Nikon and Canon
