Huss Posted November 15, 2022 Share #63 Posted November 15, 2022 I found the 7Artisans 35mm f2 to be excellent optically. The finish and feel was a bit rudimentary. I replaced it with a CV 35 1.4 v2 because as a film shooter the extra stop was valuable. And the lens was still tiny!. Leica M4-2, 7A 35 f2, Kodak ProImage 100 Welcome, dear visitor! sometimesmaybe Posted November 15, 2022 Share #64 Posted November 15, 2022 The 50mm TTA f1.4 is a great lens - just a tad too big IMO 🤓 These images were shot wide open on the m246 and edited to (poor) personal taste. sometimesmaybe Posted November 15, 2022 Share #65 Posted November 15, 2022 These 2 images are from the 7A 75mm f1.25. I understand it's a sonnar derivative. i find the lens has too much spherical aberration wide open, but it strikes the right balance at f2.8 🤓 Again these were shot on the m246 and edited to taste Welcome, dear visitor! You put your personal stamp on your work. 3

adan Posted November 16, 2022 Share #68 Posted November 16, 2022 Just for the record, Leitz's patent for the M mount was established in a three-step process, beginning in Feb. 1950 (and thus in no way affected by WW2). Final patent granted in 1953, and apparently renewed by its original expiration date of June 30, 1970. https://patents.google.com/patent/US2643581A/en In 1999, the patent was expiring again (50 years from priority date), and not so coincidentally, Konica (Konica Hexar RF) and Cosina (Bessa T) soon began making M-mount lenses and cameras. https://www.cameraquest.com/konicam.htm https://www.cameraquest.com/VCBessaT.htm The basic M mount has been in the public domain for 20 years. In April 2007 Leica applied for a patent for the 6-bit coding system introduced the year before in the M8, and that is still in effect. Which is why no-one else can use 6-bit coding. https://patents.justia.com/patent/7848634 7

I don't know if they have a grove in the flange for hand coding now. If not, those lenses are not made for jpeg users, i suspect, unless they have less distortion than that of my early coded copy. Maybe Chinese lenses would benefit from a QC system like Japan had back in the day - via an optical inspection and testing institute. Here is the full story:https://mikeeckman.com/2020/03/kepplers-vault-58-jcii/ One of the biggest fallacies I’ve ever seen. I was in Japan in the late ‘60s and they stuck those labels on in a camera shop right in front of me.
david strachan Posted November 24, 2022 Share #71 Posted November 24, 2022 Thanks Jim I'd always wondered why the stickers all looked the same, and not different from each individual factory. Creepy really, anything to fool the consumer. So they just get a sticker sheet and peel off-apply to anything really. I hope this sort of con has finished now with Japan being more sophisticated. All best..
pgk Posted November 24, 2022 Share #72 Posted November 24, 2022 Using skilled people to check lenses is time consuming and therefore expensive. Lenses are cheap for a reason and it isn't the location in which they were made. I have Sony lenses built in China which are superb but of course they are not cheap.

Cobram Posted December 14, 2022 Share #78 Posted December 14, 2022 I'm wondering how sharp is the 7artisans 75mm 1.25 at F2-F8? I plan to use this lens at F4 mainly and sometimes, when additional light is needed also at F2. Can any user comment? Rendering (from online examples) seems quite vivid and dreamy with nice smooth OOF.

It is a lot cheaper, and lighter and quite sharp even wide open at f4. If you want to go faster, there is the 'younger' Leica Tele-Elmarit 1:2.8/90, also much more compact and cheaper than the 7A 75 1.25. The variance of quality in particular for 7A and TA lenses would make a purchase be more like a 600+ euro gamble. And even if I get really lucky, I do not see them beat the Leica's mentioned above on any common aperture. I understand that leaves the 1.25 to 2.0 (or 2.8) zone uncovered by the alternative but many have stated they are not very usable anyway. Cranking up the ISO by 2 stops and shoot the Leica at 2.8 or 4.0 will add noise, but even then it will probably yield better results. P.s. I have nothing against Chinese or their products. The Light Lens Lab products could maybe convince me, they seem to really try to make it as good as possible. If I did not have the original 35 Summicron (8 elements) already, it could be tempting. I just do not like manufacturers playing casino with my money regarding quality, lifespan, support and durability...

If one wants a f/1.4 or faster lens he cannot be satisfied by f/2, f/2.8 let alone f/4 but i may be missing something too .
