Hi all, bought a used but mint black paint m-p about 2 months ago and absolutely love the camera. Truly the best value in Leica M digital bodies.

I am wondering, would I benefit from updating to the newest firmware? I also own an M8 and never bothers to update it as there were known issues with those updates. As far as I can tell my M-P has the original firmware and the camera works flawlessly.

Thanks! Leaving for a trip tomorrow so I will do this tonight if its deemed an improvement.

First off your rig is called an M-P 240 (just to avoid confusion). Yes the upgrade is completely safe. Don't remember what it does, but it certainly has not caused any harm. Enjoy your camera, I love mine.

i also just purchased an m240 , and i am running through the menu items trying to set up the camera . a lot more than the m8 . i noticed that the firmware is 2.0.2.5

and i wonder if there is any reason to upgrade the firmware if i don't plan to get any new lenses . all my lenses are from my 70and 80s film m cameras . some i coded , but

not the 35mm f2 , which does not have a screw on base , and this is lens i will be using most .

I always update my cameras with latest firmware but usually leave it for a few months after release is case of any issues.  In respect of the M240 the latest firmware is 2.1.0.0 which was released over 18 months ago.  I updated my M240 12 months ago without any problems.

I stay with firmware 2.0.5.0. In later firmwares Leica made some for me unwanted changes related to the GPS function. As far as I see the later firmwares offer only additional lenses, that I don't use. So I'm fine with the old firmware.

Bump this thread.

I just received as good as new chrome finish M-P (240) with FW 2.1.0.0 in the camera, thank you Stephens Leica of Manchester.  I have a feeling the RF is in better nick than my current M246 which is OK.

Now the firmware; The Leica website only lists FW 2.0.3.0.  shall i stick with 2.1.0.0 already in camera and ignore 2.0.3.0, or someone can shed some light on what is going on.

About the purchase, for approx half the price of s/h M10 old M240P with same 24Mp is more than good enough, and did i mention that large battery and video which i disabled, and where low ISO performance is potentially a problem my trusty M246 should cover that angle (also Nikon Z7 with IBIS)..  There is also Topaz DeNoise, where colour is desirable it lifts legacy high ISO files nicely.

Actually M-P is fine lingo. The MP is the film camera (no dash).
