Great details, seems you have chosen this pairing as your weapon of choice with the CL for birding😊.   You obviously have such different birds to us, this looks like such a powerful creature yet I realise from what's being devoured that it's not that large - great to see Rob, thank you.

Actually, Jayne, the Sigma on the CL got me a bit disenchanted with autofocus again.  I went looking for a 180 APO-Elmarit to pair with the 2X extender on the CL; and--to my utter delight--found the market far more favorable on the 280 APO.  It handles nicely on the CL, even with an extender.

The munia?  I'll trade you the one above for your colorful stonechat any day!  I think they're both about the same size.

Colorful critters sometimes seem to be the more elusive ones, as was the Scarlet-Backed Flowerpecker below . . .

CL with 280mm f/4 APO-Telyt-R, no teleconverter . . .

Oriental Magpie Robin, shot in shadows, cropped at 100% . . .

Even with about 75% of the pixels compressed out to fit the forum limit,  there's still plenty of detail for those who click through . . .

CL with 105-280mm Vario-Elmar-R + APO-Extender-R 1.4X . . .

For those who seem to think that only an anointed few can get sharp shots hand-held with this lens:  not true . . . if a lumbering oldie like me can, then anybody can, even with an extender attached.
