Really?  Three responses?  Damn, My brain sees a fine photograph.. Please give me some tips to be more likeable. My 73 rd BD is Thursday, maybe I’m just a nut-case. 🤪

I've taken a liberty with your image, since you asked. B&W conversion, lifted the highlights and the contrast and dropped the blacks. Tweaked the red and orange sliders a bit in the B&W Mix panel. All done in LR. You should try it yourself with the original. It's a good strong image that has great light and shadow and is all about shapes. IMO the colour distracts and all I see are the yellow signs. Hope you don't mind too much 😀

I must respond. I like mine better but thank you for responding. I am the senior member of this forum, 2003, and that doesn’t mean that I am a good photographer. You all have really helped me improve as I am a total unschooled amateur. But, It is impossible Not to notice that women photographers are more popular as are photographs of beautiful women. Yes, it’s way over do for your gender to be highly respected. It is also obvious that There is a click of Euro-Postings. Who cares? Truth is truth. I love this forum and you have all helped me achieve mediocrity during my 16 years as a member.

Love you all,

I like your photo in both the color original and the B&W version produced by another member.  But I think the bottom portion of the photo distracts from the photo and should be cropped out.  I don't mind the yellow signs (in the color version), but in either color or black and white, I think your eye jumps from the wall of signs down to the bottom of the photo, and those things at the bottom are distracting.  I think the wall of signs is your subject, and it's a stronger image if you crop out the bottom (hope you don't mind my playing with your image):

Albert for what it’s worth I like your original version the best, the square crop has a satisfying composition and I immediately clicked ‘like’.

We all like to be recognised for our efforts on here but it doesn’t always happen within hours - as you say it’s a really international forum so people have their own viewing habits.

Anyway, season’s greetings to you and your family! All the best, Ruskin

You sound like you're blaming us, the other members of this forum, for not giving you enough likes, and blaming us for some sort of prejudice. I'm assuming you're not serious, but mildly disconcerted. As another unschooled amateur I like getting 'likes' as much as anyone else, but in the end it's my judgement I have to rely on to tell me if my photos are any good, not anyone else's. I look at other people's photos that I think are good and try to work out why theirs work and mine don't - and make changes accordingly. (E.g. I've spent a lot of time looking at Jono Slack's images to understand his ways of composition that makes even the most mundane scene look attractive). I don't think I have ever asked "Is my photo good or not?", here or elsewhere, but I have read critical comments on lots of photos ("distracting highlights on the edge of the frame", "too many irrelevant elements", "not close enough", "what am I supposed to look at in this photo?", "simplify!" etc etc) and looked to see if they apply to my own.

If you have done all that, and like your own photos, then don't worry about whether you get likes or not.

As for prejudice, for most of the members here I have no idea what gender they are (I've met Dippy, so I know🙂) where they live or what their ethnicity or politics are. In many cases you can't tell, and in all of them the name is the last thing I look at in a post with a photo in it.

FWIW I quite liked your original colour photo, but like Caigy I would have cropped the foreground, which takes the eye away from the posters, which I assume is what you want us to look at. But don't take my word for it - use your own judgement.

Chill Albert, I think timing was the issue.  I really liked your image, thought the composition was strong, just hadn't seen it before you voiced your disappointment.  As with the above set from Lost, which had actually received less likes than yours but I think they are really good.   Keep on pressing that shutter button Albert,  Not ageist either, and happy birthday for Thursday, by the way no youngster here and my better half is older than you, ( and probably grumpier).

Please forgive my grumpy old man rant which also outed my need to be liked. How embarrassing. Your comments were very restrained and helpful. Thank you all very much. What a kind bunch of people. It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood.

On second thought, I really like your crop. Good Eyes. Thanks for the lesson.

I use the same lens/camera, but this photo allowed me to appreciate more of its essential aesthetics. Thanks!
