CL - B/W

Some friends asked me about the CL in-camera B/W files. I usually prefer to convert my files from color to B/W with Silver Efex; but becoming also curious, I decided to make some tests and see it by myself.

All are shot in the camera's "B/W Natural" , with an old MF Nikkor 50 mm, 1/1.4. (very little PP)

Die Bearbeitung von dem Foto mit der Möve gefällt mir nicht (Doppelkonturen bei den Pfählen im Hintergrund)

googleenglisch:

I do not like the editing of the photo with the Möve (double contours of the piles in the background)

Nothing to do with the editing; this is the bokeh  distortion due to that aperture, as seen with the other elements of the background. :)

BTW, I am glad Google translated your comment as I do not understand German! lol

For black and white shots I use only the Jpeg from the CL. I like them very much, I set the CL to b&w HC.

Are you sure? It does look like an overdose of clarity

For BW, most of the photographers use the JPEG files; but I find more data with raw, and as I rarely use the camera BW, when I do, I prefer to work on RAW files. :)

Actually I find the CL jpeg files excellent even for color.

Yes, pretty sure. I rarely use the "clarity". My purpose for this set was the camera BW; and I prefer to use RAW. But as you know, the RAW files are always in color. So, I viewed the pictures in BW, in LR, and only slightly changed the contrast to my taste. My workflow was the same for each shot: only the apertures were different according to my distance with the subject, the light or DOF I wanted.
