I'd say you're in danger of putting us all to shame. I love the distortion of the first and the offbeat second. The composition of the night shot below is perfect and I didn't think it was possible to have too many starbursts.  I use a Sirui travel tripod when I'm away. It's ultra-light, sturdy and folds up to fit into even a small suitcase.

Sounds like you had a great time. Last time I went it was early March so at night it was cold but I had the place largely to myself after dark as you can see below. The only competition was with a couple of iPhone shooters.  My love affair with the CV lenses started back in my M43 days.

Thanks for comments Dippy.   I have a similar travel tripod (mefoto roadtrip) I could easily have taken, and will definitely find room for next time.

Love your shot, don't think I have ever seen the square that empty, even the pigeons have gone to bed!

Great photos; I'm sure you were a lot better than your competition: the eye is more important than the equipment. But, about equipment, what a coincidence: just yesterday I put the CV 15 "into my cart" and still debating whether to get it or, as Rob suggests, the 11-23 (which is hard to find and more expensive, of course!).

Thanks bags27, my CV 15 is the first version LTM thread one, it's tiny, light and I can use it on my M.  But, if I did much wide angle shooting I would definitely go for the 11-23.

Great shot, Dippy!

I'm spinning on this issue of a wide for the CL, since I'd like to be able to use something on a FF (of course, if the SL2 is 47 mps, the TL lens will be fine; but right now I'm not at all tempted by 47 mps). Consequently, the Tokina 11-16 f/2.5 for Nikon (I have an adapter) seems like a nice stop-gap.

Thanks. I must admit that a fast UWA is very appealing. At f5.6 the UWA Voigts become more difficult to use in low light and handheld. I’ll trade that off for the starbursts at night or shooting into the sun or just when I want that extra bit of width. Clearly the 11-23 won’t work for you but that Tokina sounds ideal and at those focal lengths you can just set the focus to infinity and not have to touch it again. What  is the size like? I can’t imagine that a fast zoom lens like that will be anything small.

Ken,

I think the Tokina is a f2.8 lens and is designed for APSC sizes. Please correct me if I am mistaken. The price for it is certainly quite attractive.

yes, it is, Rob. You know everything about lenses! That would make it very appropriate for the CL, right? When I said "use on FF," it's with the intention of not spending a lot now, so that in June when Leica comes out with the SL2 the size of the Q2 but with "only" 36 mps (ha! ha!), I'll buy something appropriate to that!

working at home today and some chirping pierced the pouring rain. I grabbed my camera and fortunately the 55-135 was already on. Took this through my front door window. This is Ms. Cardinal, and I suspect I'll be hearing a lot more of her.

Plenty of those starbursts from the CV 15 here - maybe a little too many!

My eye was drawn to the Spiderman towel blowing in the wind... CL with 35TL

Why are starbursts an attribute to a photo graph ?  Your photographs are always a pleasure to view but I just don’t get the starburst infatuation. My personal problem I imagine.

Just back from my few days in Venice, as usual I totally enjoyed taking the photo's but actually quite dread the process of trawling through and editing them!

Dippy, I did my best with the CV 15mm and my little tabletop tripod, it was fun, but lots to learn.   I was no competition for the hoards of photographers out there with their full size tripods, filters, remotes etc.   My last evening walking home after a  concert, it was a struggle to cross Accademia Bridge as there must have been thirty plus tripods all looking to capture the lights and activity on the grand canal.

`No Albert not a problem in any way, I'm not too sure myself either, I think they can prove too much of a distraction and consider them definitely overdone on the dark waterfront image I posted.

This taken handheld in the jostle for places on Accademia Bridge, I could maybe lift the shadows a little more in post.
