Hi Everyone,

Just ordered a Leica 35mm APO ASPH and am curious of people's experience with wait times, I am hearing everything from 3 months to 24 months.

Thoughts?

Cheers,

Tobin

I will be 65 in August.  I am wondering if I put myself on multiple Leica store wait lists for the 35 APO, is there any hope of receiving a copy before I turn 100? 😨

You have perfect eyesights!

I'm on several waiting lists but I'm still on the fence about forking over the almost $9000 (incl. tax) that this thing will cost.   I have a 35 FLE ASPH 1.4 that I've been happy with and while I'm sure the APO is a great lens, I'd have to see for myself if it's worth it.  Could always sell the FLE, I suppose, but it's still a big outlay of cash.

That said, if the APO really was as spectacular as it's supposed to be, I'd probably go ahead and pull the trigger.  With the way things are going, it looks like it may be a while before that decision has to be made.

I received a 35 APO a while back and while very sharp with great contrast I find I prefer using my 35 1.4 pre-apsh titanium and original steel rim 35 1.4 lenses as both provide a more interesting overall rendering wide open and from F2 both are incredibly sharp. Also the close focus feature is waisted on me as I don't use live view. In hindsight I wouldn't buy it again. It is a very very good "one" lens but I do wonder once Leica has made more copies if the demand will be as high once more shooters have tried one for themselves, as it reminds me when the 50 APO was launched and the excitement was the same over the top yet it wasn't long until used copies became available at better prices.

I visited the Leica stores in Berlin, Munich, and Wetzlar in the last two weeks, wondering if availability in Germany was any better than in the US. Uniform response regarding M-APO 35mm availability - 2-3 years ... Long list of existing preorders ... I have move to a confirmed #1 "next customer in line" spot with my US dealer (non-Leica brand store) about a month ago; ordered and pre-paid the lens in February 2022; no word on ship dates (but hopeful that it will be less than the 2+ years getting in line at the major Leica stores).

One of my favorite quotes was "This lens is a physical impossibility [to build this level of excellence in this small form factor]. It should not even exist." ~ implying:no wonder that it is almost impossible to manufacture ... 😉

I just paid over. Actually I paid over for the 35 and way under for another lens to basically break even to what I would pay retail total for both. I mean that’s what I’m telling myself. Anyhow, should have it soon. There are no lenses in sight and the list is ridiculous. Could end up being a lens that goes to “higher profile” clients first in the stores. I’m not so screw it. Once I receive it maybe I’ll find it doesn’t move me, but everything I’ve read is to the contrary for 99%.

I got it today, six weeks after ordering. It is real shine! Also took Summarit 75/2.4 - my dealer had it, brand new, on reduced price - and both - despite from different ligue - are real joy.

Ordered in March 2021 arrived this week.

Yes it close focuses as this is a self-portrait in a mirror. (flipped to allow for mirror)

I recently read that the wait time for the 35mm APO has stretched to three years, but posts in this thread indicate a much shorter wait time.

@LeicaS2 your wait of four months seems well within reason, particularly since you are U.S. based.

If I may ask, which Leica dealer did you order from?

He said March 2021, not March 2022!

It seems to me best to not rely on getting this lens any time soon. If you are looking for the performance it can give, it seems like the Voigtlander 35mm APO Lanthar or 35mm SL version (if you would consider an SL body) would be a reasonable stop gap. Otherwise, a more easily attainable lens like the 35mm 1.4 FLE will give you both an extra stop and extremely good performance from about f4 or f5.6. 9000 dollars and over a year wait seem like a lot for a 35mm f2 lens...

Upon closer inspection, yes he did.  @LeicaS2 had a 16 month wait then, not 4 months.  Sorry, I was distracted while writing my post. 🤪

At this point, my strategy will be to go with a 35mm Summilux M ASPH and wait for the 35 APO.

The 35 'lux is an outstanding lens, even if it is not APO.  I am open to the possibility that the 35 Summilux will do all that I want it to do, negating the want/need for the 35 APO.  Time will tell.

Just want to share the joy of receiving my APO 35mm. My dealer told me last week that one is incoming and asked me if i wanted it. And it is in my hand, attached to my M11 today. Such a beautiful lens… couldn’t be any more happier.

Here are few pictures from this lens.
