When I acquired the LLL '8-Element' it came - used/possibly ex-demo - from a London dealership so it will be covered by their guarantee and they have an excellent repairman on their books. As far as importing one new from, perhaps, Singapore / Hong Kong goes? No idea. If LLL could establish a dealership in the EU and in the US I'm sure they could sell a great number of their lenses; not just the two styles which have been discussed here but also their ELCAN 50mm and their very unusual and unique E39-mount collapsible '8 Element'. They really do need to get their act together because their intended market seems to be more than ripe for the plucking. Philip.
Advertisement Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 Hi pippy, Take a look here Another Nocti 1.2 Asph?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jakontil Posted June 22, 2022 Share #22  Posted June 22, 2022 The advantage 1.2 has is its compact size besides its characteristic rendering, i too like pippy dont always shoot wide open, but intentionally look for the paper thin dof i have the 0.95 too which sharp wide open, and probably true when people bought the 1.2 in this modern era, they expect to be sharp if not sharper than the original version i also had the 7artisans 1.1, the bokeh was too much wide open

One of their dealers in EU stopped working with them completely due to all the difficulties in dealing with the company. Not chinese whispers, first hand info - I could not order a LLL lens from him anymore, nor would he forward my request to LLL. They make nice stuff tho, no doubt there.  They sell them here in Japan through Leica official dealers such as mapcamera and I know for sure HK dealers also sell them.
Danner Posted June 22, 2022 Share #24 Â Posted June 22, 2022 It sounds like LLL has its hand full satisfying the Asian markets for now, and isn't yet ready to satisfy the demands that the EU and US markets would entail. Has the price been announced? Â I didn't see that anywhere.

No worries whatsoever, Philip. Regarding the recent f1.2 Noctilux reissue by Leica, I would indeed be quite surprised if there were any patents directed to that lens. As far as I understood things, Leica essentially copied their own prior lens as far as possible, which would mean that this 'new' lens cannot include any patentable subject matter. They may have had to change the optical computation a bit, in order to accommodate for a change in glass materials (as some of the old glass types may no longer be available), but I don't think that will or would qualify as patentable subject matter. But I must confess I did not check whether Leica has filed any patent for their Noctilux reissue! Cheers, Andreas 1

I don't know whether, by "too much bokeh wide open", jakontil means that he felt it was too nervous, too pronounced or something else entirely so I've just dragged-out a couple of simple holiday-snaps (previously posted elsewhere hereabouts) - which I know for certain were taken at f1.1 and f1.4 with my M9-P - just in case anyone reading this thread is unfamiliar with the way the 7A lens in question renders. First pic shot is f1.1 and has a few Boke Balls in the background. Second pic - posted here really just to show rendering - was taken at f1.4 to try to ensure I had enough DoF for all 4 eyes! pippy Posted June 22, 2022 Share #29 Â Posted June 22, 2022 Back ON topic however; I've had a communication from LLL sent as an e-mail following various exchanges which touches on the VAT situation when importing one of their lenses into the UK. I haven't discussed putting the info into the public realm with the contact - not that I suspect there is anything secretive about the situation whatsoever - but if anyone in the UK would like a bit more detail (and there isn't much TBH!) then please send me a PM. Cheers, Andreas Even if Leica indeed filed patent(s) for the reissue lens to protect any new patentable features, this is a non-issue as such new features will not be present in the LLL lens (assuming that LLL faithfully recreated the original 50mm f1.2 of the 60s and not the Leica reissue). edit: Further, the reissue lens was announced by Leica around Jan 2021. Any patent filing typically has to be done prior to such public announcements, and hence will probably be published by now (18months from filing date). Just by chance, have you searched for any potential patent Leica may have filed?  I did a simple search for any prior filings from Leica Camera AG between 2019 and 2021, and found a couple lens related applications in pub. no. WO2022100786A1, DE102019118602A1. https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/04/d8/25/4d6becdf66991e/WO2022100786A1.pdf https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/29/0e/bb/3304cc3e50af04/DE102019118602A1.pdf However, none looks like the 6-element configuration in the 50mm f1.2. Caveat, there may be a slight delay between actual publication and availability on patent databases. It will get more definitive a few months from now.
