Pepeghallo Posted May 29, 2022 Share #1 Â Posted May 29, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I'm going on a 15-day trek with my Leica CL in a bivouac in the mountains. Does one of you have a proposal so that I can hold these 15 days without worrying about the battery? - Power bank? - Solar panel? How to deal with the charger which has no USB power cable? - 3 or 4 reserve batteries? Thanks for your advices
Advertisement Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 Hi Pepeghallo, Take a look here Leica CL in 15 days trekking. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
danielfrimley Posted May 29, 2022 Share #2  Posted May 29, 2022 If I get any more than one day out of a single battery I count myself lucky. I’m pretty sure you’re going to be thankful for an external charging source. You can get some pretty powerful yet small power banks, I’d still want to do the maths and estimate how many charges I can count on - then half it
Pepeghallo Posted May 29, 2022 Author Share #3 Â Posted May 29, 2022 But then which charger to take? Because mine has an electrical outlet that is not USB.... I can't connect my charger neither to a powerbank nor to a solar panel!? Leica does not offer a USB charger and the CL does not connect directly either... Or can I trust a charger from another brand like "Nitecore"?
jaapv Posted May 29, 2022 Share #4 Â Posted May 29, 2022 Yes you can - the CL batteries are quite universal and chargers and batteries are interchangeable with many brands

Consider all tempting options carefully before committing to shooting. Think like a plate camera operator and get everything right before releasing the shutter. The added bonus? Less editing when you return and a higher percentage of keepers. A win-win situation.
Boojay Posted May 29, 2022 Share #6 Â Posted May 29, 2022 I would take a minimum of 4 charged batteries and a good power bank - double USB charger such as this one fine for the CL https://www.amazon.co.uk/Compatible-DMW-BLC12E-DMW-BLC12PP-DMC-FZ200GK-DMC-FZ1000-Black/dp/B08BN6TX8Y/ref=sr_1_9?crid=3F0JX85K6K4HK&keywords=batteries+for+Leica+Q&qid=1653861402&s=electronics&sprefix=batteries+for+leica+q%2Celectronics%2C82&sr=1-9 Â Â Â Â

See my reply above ... but there are many such chargers around, the battery used the CL BP-DC-12 is used in quite a few camera's. I have one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-PowerCore-Portable-Double-Speed-Recharging/dp/B01JIWQPMW/ref=asc_df_B01JIWQPMW/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309877496628&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=13281319067154637235&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1007072&hvtargid=pla-378616144462&psc=1 I haven't had to put it to test you require though (15 days), but following David's advice @wda would also be wise.

To answer you directly, I have three NITECORE chargers and they work well, although you may get slightly less charge than with the leica ac charger. In other words, use the camera as in film days, just to shoot  Don’t check your pics on the screen unless absolute necessity, make your review and edition once you are back home. Pepeghallo Posted May 30, 2022 Author Share #13  Posted May 30, 2022 Thank you all for your advice! For this journey... I will only shoot the best images. I'm going to turn off my screen. I will bring 2 powerbanks and 3 batteries. But hey, a few years ago I fell into a river and all the equipment had taken on water. I hope that this time I will be more skilful... 😇  1

JHPINLA Posted May 31, 2022 Share #15  Posted May 31, 2022 (edited) I am late to this discussion, but yes the Nitecore charger with a USB lead is fine from a car socket. I have one and from power banks that is also good except as somebody else mentioned you may get a slightly less charge than from a regular charger plugged into the wall socket, but I haven't any specific experience of this. You mention "with a bivouac" so I am assuming backpacking with no access to a power source other than the power banks. You might like to consider a solar panel charger which you could then strap on the top of the backpack whilst en route to top up either the battery packs or the power banks. I would experiment with this before your trip. But yes loads of batteries is also a route. I find the Wasabi batteries fine and much cheaper for my CL. vanhulsenbeek Posted May 31, 2022 Share #17 Â Posted May 31, 2022 Please do not rely on taking many batteries, when you are going to a cold place. If so, the combination of a power bank - with USB outlet for the Nitecore - plus perhaps a solar panel would be safer. Also watch out for condensation when you take the camera out from the cold into a warm place. Take out the battery first! There are always residual currents in the camera. Ba Erv Posted May 31, 2022 Share #18 Â Posted May 31, 2022 Add this and a Nitecore ULQ (discontinued but still available online if you search around) Â https://www.goalzero.com/collections/portable-solar-chargers/products/nomad-20-solar-panel
tommonego@gmail.com Posted May 31, 2022 Share #19  Posted May 31, 2022 I have a Wasabi USB charger, which is small holds 2 batteries charges well. It came with 2 batteries, BUT the batteries were awful, lasted about half as long as my Leica batteries. So now I use 2 Leica batteries and 2 Sigma. Are you going some place that is cold? If so you may want more batteries, yes turn off the LCD. So 4 batteries if you will have anoccasional place to charge them, 6 if charging isn't an option.
