There are black dots in Wetzlar and the Geosystems excuse is lame. You can also find them on etsy, check it out.

It’s not lame. Leica Geosystems is very fussy about that logo. They license it to Leica Camera AG.

when is Leica selling black Dot again, I have seen the M11 with it, so they do have them.

I have a black dot, unused. Was going to swap it out of the m11, but ended up waiting for the m11p so no longer need. DM me if you're interested! Located in Philly.

I believe it’s owned by Leica Microsystems, and licensed to Leica Camera and Leica Geosystems. And, yes, they are extremely protective, at least with licensees, by all reports I’ve read.

There are fake Rolexes everywhere too; doesn’t mean the company is responsible or not protective.  The only Leica product sold by the company with black logo/Leica script has been the black M8.2.  Forum reports by those who know far more than I on the subject, indicate that Leica Microsystems was not pleased with the M8.2 situation.

Then Leica Microsystems probably went completely batshit crazy when Leica brought out the Q by Seal 😄.
Do not believe everything you read from the people who know more than you on the forum.

Do you think they were not angry anymore?

Reports are that the were upset that Leica Camera didn’t follow internal protocols.  I’d be inclined to believe that lesson was learned.  The Seal Q was a special limited edition AFAIK.

Domed and glossy… easier to discern than a fake Rolex. DAG used the real red logo and repainted with an appropriately subtle matte finish like the M8.2.

How snobbish. A fake logo on a true camera. I want that :D

Too expensive for a sticker. A piece of gaffer tape cost nothing, and it's worth a million when you're in the danger zone. 😉

The same things are true for me, as far as the Leica M6 and Leica M8 cameras are concerned.

  • 2 months later...

I managed to purchase a spare red dot, which then gave me the courage to remove the original one, strip the paint, and spray paint it matt black...

Not quite the same texture but it was a fun experiment...  I'm still undecided whether or not I should silver the letters or keep it this way.

Leave it like this for a stealthy look.

One more thing. The overall result obtained, ןs organic with a flowing and harmonious design. Which, in my opinion, does a better job than the manufacturer's original solution, which replaced the traditional red logo, with a huge cosmetic screw, on the front of the Leica M11-P.

Yup.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leica_Camera
