I purchased this lens and it came with the lens hood and the cap for the lens. What I would prefer is to have hood attached with the cap on it. The seller told me that the original hood cap fallen apart long time ago, but I read on internet that it actually never existed, and I really can't find one. Does anyone here know if the cap for this hood exists at all? Does anyone 3D print them perhaps? I use the lens attached to the lens directly, because it's better protection than just a hood without the cap, in my opinion, but it would be ideal to have both.

Which version of the Elmarit-R 28mm did you purchase?  V2 has a built in rectangular hood which can retract out of the way.

Yeah, I can take off the hood, but I'd like to keep the hood with the cap on it. Right now, I can choose between hood without the cap, or just the lens cap without the hood. I have the lens cap, and my question is does the hood cap exists at all, because I cannot find it anywhere.

Not sure what version, the S/N is 25115...

At that time, the hood cap was not invented yet.

Only cap over sliding hood was offered with those lenses.

Coming to this Elmarit-R 28mm, I use one for long and never needed the hood cap which never exist.

Examining the hood front that I have (now), even with 3D printed "hood-cap", I fear that the hood attaching such device would be loose, lost at first occasion.

As side note, I'd use "soft-fabric-cover" if I needed protecting the hood on lens.

Just an idea 😔.

Shortest "lens case" over the hood would do the job...

Wow, I didn't know hood caps came so late! Seems too obvious today.

I still have to decide, will I be continue to use the bare lens with the cap, or attach the hood and have the open hole to the glass, since I cannot attach protective UV filter when the hood is on. Didn't have too much flare problems without the hood, but I'm just used to have hood on all my small M lenses all the time.

Easy solution for UV filter with the hood.

If you can not find Serie VII filter, just use E49 UV filter holding by the hood.

Have a look in this thread

There is a cap that fits the hood of the 50mm Summilux-R (first version), but not for the 28mm Elmarit-R or 35mm Elmarit-R. The only cap fits the lens itself. The lens accepts E48 threaded filters. The hood can be reversed and the cap will fit in the reverse position. There are thus two caps for the 50mm Summilux-R one that fits the hood, and another that fits directly on the lens (see below). The 35mm and 28mm Elmarits accepts that same cap, but not the one that fits the hood.

I managed to put the filter and the hood. This is solid protection now, even without the cap. I'll give it a try for some time.

@Ornello I have the combo from the last image.

It's best to use the E48 filters with these lenses. Series 7 filters have no threads and easily fall out. The E48 filter will fit inside the hood just like the series 7, except that it screws in.

This is exactly what I do.  The B+W UV filter fits perfectly on my v1 and the lens hood does a great job of keeping indirect light off the filter. The hard part is the lens cap which splits easily on the side slots.  Does anyone know of a 48mm cap that is similar to M style lens caps and clicks on?

There are generic caps designed to clip in to 48mm filter threads (e.g. B&H have one branded 'Sensei'), but I don't know if the clip release pinch tabs on the sides would be accessible with the hood mounted (and the strap eyelet might need to be snipped or filed off). Kood claim their 49mm cap with side-pinch tabs is also compatible with 48mm. They don't say anything about their 49mm centre-pinch cap, which can be released from the front, but something like that might be worth trying.

Just use the filter as the 'lens cap'. Simply wipe the filter when it becomes dusty.  The plastic caps do indeed easily split along the notches. Another example of Leica's brilliant engineering.

Does the 48mm filter screw into the 28mm F/2.8 Elmarit R filter thread AND let you attach the 12509 hood, and if so, why mess with the Series 7 adapter and filters?

@OrnelloI did confirm that a standard 48mm threaded filter does indeed screw into the lens, so no need to mess around with the Series 7 stuff. Thanks!

I have the 50mm Summilux as shown, with the lens cap.  I took it on holiday to the Himalayas one year and it was so cold it would fall off in my camera bag.

The vendor OP/TECH makes a tiny neoprene cover called a "Hood Hat". They make a few sizes and are a stretch to fit type of setup.

They offer good protection and just pull right off. I would show you a picture of one on my 28mm F/2.8 R Elmarit v1, and 12509 shade- but it is out at the beauty parlor having a CLA done, but attached is a photo of the Hood Hat 'Mini' on the 12509 Shade. The 'Mini' is a snug fit and the small is somewhat of a looser fit

Oh, and they are "dirt cheap!"

It works very well. Hope this helps.
