acg69 Posted April 27, 2022 Share #1 Posted April 27, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Quick question: Does one have to press AND HOLD the joystick in order to lock exposure, or just pressing once suffices? If it is the former, not good... Thanks in advance!
Advertisement Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 Hi acg69, Take a look here AE-L via Joystick. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
acg69 Posted April 28, 2022 Author Share #2 Posted April 28, 2022 It's not that hard, come on:) Anyone who owns one should be able to answer it! I would REALLY like to know as I am using Spot and AEL almost exclusively and holding it to "stick" would be really cumbersome. Again, thanks for taking the time! acg69 Posted April 29, 2022 Author Share #3 Posted April 29, 2022 Just wondering: is this forum dead? I am asking a simple question for anyone using the SL2-S...
Jean-Michel Posted April 29, 2022 Share #4 Posted April 29, 2022 I only use M lenses on my SL2, so cannot tell you. But, you should be able to find out by simply trying with your own camera/lens.
acg69 Posted April 29, 2022 Author Share #5 Posted April 29, 2022 Thanks, but I don't have the SL2-S yet. Thinking about it.
Pelu2010 Posted April 29, 2022 Share #6 Posted April 29, 2022 You just hold the joystick down and move to another spot.
LocalHero1953 Posted April 29, 2022 Share #7 Posted April 29, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sorry - I never use AEL!
Luke_Miller Posted April 29, 2022 Share #8 Posted April 29, 2022 I don't have an SL2-S either, but I feel pretty sure you would have to hold the joystick down to lock the exposure. That is the way the AE-L button on my Nikons work and it is how a half press of the SL shutter release works.

On the Q2 for example (as well as other cameras I have had in the past, like the X100F) you press the AE-L button and you lock exposure for that shot. You don't have to keep it pressed with your finger as your are shooting. it was like that in earlier q2 firmware but it was eventually fixed. beewee Posted April 29, 2022 Share #10 Posted April 29, 2022 I never use AE-L. Just use matrix/scene metering and adjust with EV correction if I’m shooting in Aperture priority. Otherwise I’m shooting manual exposure. For AF, I keep things in MF mode and hitting the joystick button will trigger AF. Releasing joystick is equivalent to AF-L. Works like a charm.
