Doesn’t allow for DNG and jpg to SD card and DNG or JPG to Inter al which is what I want.  Because otherwise you still have to transfer the internal files separately.  I like to keep DNG and jpg versions of my files and would want to save the step of sending jpgs from the internal to the SD before taking the card out and transferring to backups.  It’s one more step.

the perfect setup for me would be DNG and JPG to SD card and DNG to internal.  At the end of the day I take the SD card out to backup my files and then reformat both SD and Internal memory before the next day.

it should let us just pick what to save to each SD and internal separately instead of picking a preset combo.

unless you are shooting more than 64gb per day, your best bet is to save both formats on SD and Internal. This way you have a "in the field" back up (IN) that gets purged when you get home and back up your SD card

60mpx DNG and jpg files are between 110-130mb for me.  That’s around 500 shots.  As a novice, I usually do a few test shots to dial in exposure (I mostly go full manual) and then usually take 4-5 shots of a scene if I’m capturing people (to have a choice to pick the best picture of people blinking and smiling or making gestures).  I will hit 500 photos sometimes pretty easily in a given day.  But you are right, writing both files to both storage mediums is the best practice and will fit my needs as my skill with the rangefinder, m11, and photography in general improve.

I was told by a Leica rep that it was ok to install the new firmware. Yesterday, I used Leica Foto for the first time and the installation was flawless and quick.

Two of the software problems I was having have been fixed. Changing the DNG file size now works properly, I could never be sure I was shooting the file size I had set. It was random. Also, changes I make in the Quick Menu stay changed when the camera is shut down and then restarted later.

I guess by the time M11-P comes up it'll be finally ready:)

I thought the initial description of the M11 claimed one could get GPS data for each image by connecting with the Fotos App on one's iPhone. I have seen no evidence of it in either the initial Beta release or the 1.3.0 release. Did I just imagine this was supposed to be a feature? Granted the GPS for the M10 VisoFlex doesn't do well in the woods and takes its time getting coordinates in the clear -- why I leave the camera turned on when hiking and carry an extra battery. Given the new VisoFlex's larger size, they could have put a better GPS antenna in it and it would be much more usable than having a live connection between your iPhone and the camera.

I tried updating with my iPad and iPhone, but neither worked. After connecting, it would just hang. I ended up downloading to my laptop and saving it the SD card and upgrading from it.

Well initial connection to GPS is usually long and it need to be in the open with no coverage.

Many cameras manufacturing think it easier to take from the phone since it is already connected and on top of GPS it can use the cellular triangulation . it is all about compromises.

I think the GPS in the FOTOS app will require another update of the FOTOS app.

I use a different iPhone app to track movements and then sync it after importing the files to the computer. There are a few loggers out there. Not sure why FOTOS app does not offer this, it is logging anyway if you have it open.

Some time that is a limitation of IOS. Deleting and reinstalling the FOTOS app would have probably fixed it.

This is announced to be in the next big firmware update coming probably in late summer.

My files are between 65 and 78MB depending on the level of detail.

How do your files get so big?
What file sizes do other users have at full resolution?

Is anybody else frustrated with the multi segment light metering ?

I find it unpredictable and it often overexposes my images at the slightest suggestion of shadow detail. I'm constantly checking images and dialling in  -1.7 to +1 exposure depending on the scene. It's far from an intelligent light meter, and this new highlight weighted metering is even less predictable.

I have an issue with this new firmware I didn’t have with the previous versions. The camera doesn’t want to come out of standby after I left it idle for the set auto off time. I tap the shutter button, the frames do show, but the shutter is not opening and the led on the rear shows orange. Turning it off and on doesn’t help. Only removing the battery.

My experience with light metering so far has been less than excellent too. I come from the Q and mostly shoot concert photography, where the multi-zone metering was always quite good. With the M11 I am getting some odd drastic variations and blown highlights way more than I would expect. I personally don't know if it is specifically the metering, or also potentially because I am now shooting a Summilux @ 1.4 on the new camera, but its quite a surprise. I always expose to the left now to avoid this, which is odd but working okay for me at the moment.
