topoxforddoc Posted September 8, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 8, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) More old machines - flying ones this time. If my colours are off, my apologies. Maybe I see everything through magenta tinged specs. Anyway, I like old planes and grew up with old Spitfires practising regularly outside our house during the summer display season. Even now, when I hear a Merlin engine, I'm out of the door scanning the skies for another Spit, Hurricane or Lancaster. Thanks for looking Charlie

elansprint72 Posted September 8, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 8, 2007 Lovely shot, perfect timing. Don't suppose you have any shots of the Magenta Arrows at all? Ignore that comment, I would not want to start another "ridiculous discussion". :D:D
Guest flatfour Posted September 8, 2007 Share #3 Posted September 8, 2007 Wasn't it the Merlin which made the Mustang really go ?
topoxforddoc Posted September 8, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted September 8, 2007 Wasn't it the Merlin which made the Mustang really go ? Yes, The original P51 (A& were Allison powered, but the P51D (shown here) was powered by a Merlin. Charlie

Michael-IIIf Posted September 10, 2007 Share #6 Posted September 10, 2007 A lovely study of two of the most beautiful craft ever built. Now if you'd managed to get a Mosquito in the frame as well.....

Guest flatfour Posted September 16, 2007 Share #10 Posted September 16, 2007 Pete - Was this Mossie overhead or doing a steep bank ?
abrewer Posted September 16, 2007 Share #11 Posted September 16, 2007 Great shots! There's a guy here with a P51D. I see him flying in and out of Clermont Airport occasionally, east of the city, when I'm driving that direction. Now I wish I hadn't gone to the IndyCar race last month instead of going to the Air Show! Thanks. Allan
elansprint72 Posted September 16, 2007 Share #12 Posted September 16, 2007 Pete - Was this Mossie overhead or doing a steep bank ? Tony, It was doing a slow wing-over turn; just the manoeuvre it was performing when it crashed some years later. Now there are none left flying.
