To be fair, I’d also have a difficult time saying anything except “Wow!” And “Great!” while testing out that set of bodies and lenses 😅 But yeah, it really highlights how, at this level, the main differentiating factor is simply personal preference. I believe there is a difference between the S and SL bodies in IQ, I also know that the S lenses do focus slower with the adapter than they focus with the S, as the SL lenses focus MUCH faster on the SL compared to adapted S lens. And the findings S100 is newer design than S120 and therefore bette, and Noctilux 75 is even newer design and "more better" ... I can't follow. For me its marketing bla bla, I enjoyed to watch anyways.
ZHNL Posted February 9, 2022 Share #6 Posted February 9, 2022 (edited) The video show that real photographer may not be a gear specialist like forum poster. (guilty here) Photography gear talk or even gear using and photography itself can be very different thing. LOL There are many flaws on how to compare lens, shooting distance, and format change in this video. This make it impossible to do an Objective comparison. However, I enjoy the video as is. Jon Warwick Posted February 10, 2022 Share #7 Posted February 10, 2022 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for flagging the video, it was fun to watch. One of the things I got from it was their very brief mention of the photographer Mark De Paola, I didn't know much about him and I've started to look at his images in more depth. His work is incredible IMHO. Edited February 10, 2022 by Jon Warwick

I think the best takeaway is that there *is* no such thing as an objective comparison. This is just the use by one photographer, and one set of processing settings. But at least it is a real photographer with real focus, bokeh, and skin concerns, and not a YouTube reviewer.

I agree that it is tricky to compare 100mm and 120mm, not to mention compare different format and equivalent aperture with 75 Noct. If we want to really compare look of 100mm and 120mm, we have to be very careful to match the magnification of subject, means moving in for 100mm, then compression will still be different. I did comparison myself, once matched subject relative size in the frame, 100cron has slightly more blurred background, 120mm is sharper with smoother bokeh with better CA control. If 120 is 100mm size with the same focus throw, I would pick it over 100mm. However, in real world, I use 100mm way more just because of extra speed and more lovely handling. As I said, I do enjoy the video. It is rare to see S and SL2 in action. Leica 75/90 Noct were really designed for SL or maybe new M11 with EVF. I'd love to have that two lenses but way too rich for my blood A modern 85mm f1.4 with AF will give similar look and sharpness though.
Technician Posted February 13, 2022 Share #10 Posted February 13, 2022 Don't get me wrong, Mark Mann is a legendary photographer, not denying that, but most of this video is plain gibberish. Not to mention sloppy production and constant misfocus.

Not to mention sloppy production and constant misfocus. In all seriousness, you should let Mark Mann know what you feel was wrong and how the production values could be improved. John Kreidler would also welcome notice of any technical inaccuracies. Edited February 13, 2022 by mgrayson3

I do know this: give him his choice of *any* equipment for a portrait shoot and he'll pick the S(007) and the S120/2.5.
