Hello,

I just acquired a Leica M-A and I am loving it ! I am new to the Leica family 😊

I am trying to find a leather half case for my camera but I can't find one. I was wondering if all the Leica M film cameras are the same size and if I can buy any case that suits another M film camera ?

Any recommendations ?

Thank you for your help :)

Ebay has half cases for Leica film bodies from cheap to super expensive.  I think I paid about $60 for mine.  The body on all film Leicas are the same size except the M5 or CL.  So, eBay and search for Leica cases.  How much you want or need to spend is up to you.

I like the genuine Leica cases.  I have the 14870 like the one linked below.  It is a very high quality leather and has a small grip on the front that makes the camera more comfortable to hold.  Price below is on the high side, you can get them cheaper if patient.

Another option is a genuine M4 case. These have a beautiful burgundy colour and are also superb quality.  I bought one for my M3 for £40.

All of the M bodies are the same size (except M5). When I was looking for a case for my M3 I found that the M3 cases have the front flap permanently attached.  If you want a half case you need a case designed for M4 onwards. I never use the front flaps, I have a box full of them!

I agree with Andrew. I had the 14870 case and used it with both my M2 and M6 TTL's. It's easy to remove, has a nice finger grip and offers good protection. When I bought the M4, I bought an Artist & Artisan half case. Great case, beautifully made but I moved to a Photo Equip ML grip and the poor A&A is stashed away.

If you're willing to wait a bit (they're made to order) and pay more, Arte di Mano does beautiful work, and you can choose from many different colors/styles of leather. I have one of their half cases for my MP and love it. https://artedimano.com/Leicacases

Yes they really nice, but just very much out of my price range.

I'd love to recommend mine because it's been great, but for the life of me I can't figure out who made it. Is anyone familiar with "Rabbit & Camera"? It looks like the attached, and the logo includes a rabbit. I've come up empty on Google.

I use cases from Luigi, Art and Artisan, Zhou but my favourite are now these:

I also have good experience with that brand (TP) for some other cameras. It is sold by a bunch of different sellers on Ebay and the price is very reasonable.

I use the Artisan & Artist half cases on both my M6, and have been very happy with them.

I like Luigi's cases and straps (even with his randomised website). I've had them before for the M9 and M240, and have one now for the M4. It's the cut/shape around the front as much as anything. I have one for a IIf on order - not all the other makers make them for Barnacks (I know some do).
