It is not about value, but that Philips Photoflux is one hefty flashbulb. :)

Edit:  confused it with my first darkroom bulb by Philips, that came in similar packing.

First time a see this kind of bulb upfront, its all "meshy" inside. Is it one flash shot or multiple rounds before disposal?

Looks like one single flash to me, due to the mesh inside which will "flash" away on ignition.

Still, the lot is well worth what you have paid. If desired, you can sell the IIIg case and the IIIg box separately, and you will likely obtain almost the amount you paid, maybe even more.

That looks fun. You'll have to choose a suitable model to shoot with it. One with a good sense of humour.

Have your model wear sunglasses...

1 shot, looks like a PF60, blue coated version for daylight film, just possibly a PF100 but it doesn't look big enough.  I used many many of these in the 70s in Kobold and Boflash guns, with a Sinar.

A couple of boxes of these took up a lot of space in the back of my Austin Minivan!

How does these compare with a modern flash power output?

Must have been a costly event to use these?

They were much more powerful than any portable (i.e. battery powered) electronic flash at that time.  We were using them with 5x4, HP4 or Ektacolor, at f/32 and f/16 respectively to get depth of field, as fill flash mostly, in single bulb guns.  We also had Bowens heads that took 4 bulbs in each.  Largest job I did was in Kings College Chapel in Cambridge, choir in the chancel, 3 heads with 5 in each (four in the sockets, one taped in the middle to fire in 'sympathy').  15 per shot but two cameras using open shutter  flash.  The job was presumably priced accordingly by the sales dept!

No idea how modern flashes compare, been retired a long while and dont use much flash at all for personal stuff.

These large Edison screw flash bulbs are still made, mainly for use in movie special effects and theatres. http://www.meggaflash.com They are far from cheap. There was a huge flashbulb made during WW2 called a GE-Mazda GE75, for taking aerial night photo-reconnaissance images. I got one of these in 1962 from the army surplus store that used to be on the North Bridges in Edinburgh, when I was at school there. The GE75 stands over 12 inches tall - see comparison photo below.

having spent over 20 years at auctions- I was pretty sure those boxes would be empty- the quality of the photo- and the way they had artfully arranged the items strongly suggested if their was a leica in that box: they would have found it.

Oftentimes in an estate from a photographer you will find such a collection: sundries and old boxes. I always keep my boxes too. One day perhaps another bidder will be somewhat disappointed by my collection of empty boxes...

Not to worry: I'd say you got your moneys worth just about. Old Leica boxes can fetch a few $$ on ebay...

I am not the "seller type" so these things might very well endup in similar auction, The journey was the gain, the discussions, speculations and me expanding my knowledge made it all worth the money spent.

And for sure, on next occation I will go all in again 🙂

There is even a jacket to bid on, Leica original?

I think those jackets are sales goods for Leica Microsystems/surveying equipment rather than Leica Camera. I got a Leica branded cleaning cloth with my laser distance measuring device made by Leica Microsystems.
