Survey: Would you buy an EVF only camera with an M mount?

473 members have voted

  1. 1. Should Leica make a manual focus EVF camera?

    • Absolutely. I'm second in line after Flash.
    • Never! It's the work of the Devil.
    • Hmmm? Not sure. I'd want to see it first.
    • I want one of each. M11 and this new wonder camera!
    • Not for me but I'd be happy if it exists.
    • Does it come in Monochrom?

As recalled above, Leica said that if there were sufficient demand, they would consider producing an "M with EVF". Asked how many they would need to sell in order to make such a decision, Stefan Daniel estimated “a couple of thousand”.

As linked 4 pages back, and probably before that. I think this topic was exhausted long before 1k posts.  But such is life on the forum.  It will likely go on, repeating the same arguments, for years.

So much for the 'decisive moment,' lol..

In RF mode, the M11 works like other M cameras and in LV mode, focus peaking can take even less time than RF focusing given that there is no need to recompose the same way as we (at least i) do with rangefinder cameras. Matter of practice as usual.

What else would you suggest? Posting a link to another post of this thread? Takes less time to post a link to the source itself IMHO.

Well, seen that way, the rangefinder is the first thing that can go. It's not "needed to take a picture" at all. The camera takes pictures perfectly well without any rangefinder. The same applies, of course, to the display and the EVF socket. The tripod socket: away with it. The removable storage card. The frameline selector. There must be more parts which the camera does not need to take a picture.

How can you focus the camera without it? Not the camera. YOU.

It’s crazy to see the huge list of “wants” for specs on the next Leica M camera. How many things do you need to take a picture. Jesus Christ 😅

Keyword being YOU. I said how many things do you need to take a picture.

I guess you missed the point… waste of time posting at all, since obviously few bother to read before their own post. Forum life.

Some people don't read, others do, such is the forum life as well.

At least this discussion weeds out the posers. Now we know who they are…. 😀

It is a portion of the user base being Leica. It does look good walking around with one, even though you secretly hate it.

I would respect them more if they just sold all their Leica gear and bought a Sony.

I don't know whom is we and if the posers are me but i use both Leica and Sony gear if it is of any interest.

My goodness!  You’ve been here five minutes and you’re making quite a splash!  If you want to stick around, you might find that there is a very friendly and helpful community here.  A bit of respect might not go amiss.

If you have a read around the forum, you will find that this issue has been discussed at length, and with consideration beyond insulting other members, for over 10 years.

Perhaps start off by telling us a bit about yourself - where you’re from, your interest in photography … you know, the sort of reasonable and polite way of introducing yourself.

I've come to the conclusion that, while I think an EVF based M camera has a place, I wouldn't buy one.  Actually, I don't plan on buying another digital M camera, I don't think.  I'm trusting the sage advice here that my Monochrom and M10-D will see me out, and if they don't I'm hoping my X2D will.

The niche for an MEVF is small, as we already have an EVF M with the Visoflex and the SL cameras have gained maturity.  The SL3 sounds like it is going to be excellent (based on nothing attributable).  If anyone wants an EVF camera with an L mount and able to use M lenses with an adapter, then the SL3 will be the one for them.  An L mount based camera in an M body, with M-like haptics would be a bit odd.  The only thing being gained is the body form which would be strange to use with SL lenses (none are small).

So, leaving aside my own choice, will Leica make an MEVF camera?  I doubt it.  Search [link to any number of discussions] - we've been talking about this for over 10 years ...

Just my tuppence.

Indeed, reason why nobody i recall about is asking for that. The M in EVF-M suggests that it would be an M-mount camera.

Agreed. People are looking for a small, EVF based camera with familiar haptics which works well with all M lenses. This leaves out possible cameras from any other brands, as none can play well with M lenses. L lenses are nowhere in the equation (way too large) and that camera would be DOA.
