by the way my black camera bottom plate & the battery finish are different. the battery is much more rough & does get easily dirty (similar to Kai video) but the rest of the base plate is much softer & doesn't get dirty with dead skin etc. Is everyone's battery finish like this?

So there is no metal plate on the bottom of the battery?

hard to tell for sure...feels like a plastic material to me. Not sure it matters though, its the battery.

Regardless the finish does feel rougher on the battery plate. Either due to the material used or the fact that its finished by another supplier. In either case its insignificant.

If it's durable and looks the same as a base plate that is good enough for me...
Or I can drill a hole in my M11 battery bottom to see what is inside.
If I find something interesting I will report here immediately... :D

I wouldn't drill a hole...you can scratch the edge, I thought about it for 1 second :)

But frankly I could care less what's its made of...it fits tightly, is sealed and looks just fine.

I will not “drill a hole“... that was a joke... it would be stupid to do so... :D
I can scratch her but why if it work as it suppose to work...
I am sure the one day someone will figure that out and post it here on LUF... :D

  • 11 months later...

Just to clarify some ambiguity in Leica's own marketing material...

Leica replied to my question asking what material the Silver M11's top and bottom plates are made from...

"The top and the bottom plate of the silver M11 are made from brass.

Merely the top and bottom of the black M11 are made from aluminum."
