Hi everyone I decided to use the internal storage only for my photos but now I’m connecting my M11 with a USB-C to USB-C cable to the iPad and Lightroom does not recognize it (it just says there’s no device connected). When I try with Leica Fotos it works…so now I’m transferring from the M11 to Leica Fotos to then send them to Lightroom. BUT it’s SO SLOW to transfer, and also..is this really the only way to do this? If anyone knows a better way let me know otherwise I guess I’ll have to use SD cards instead.

Did you change the USB-mode from Apple MFi to PTP? (page 83 of manual)

The USB-C connectivitiy is not fully implemented yet. We don´t know what it will bring. For now the M11 is not recognized as a hard drive. So You have to go via the Leica App when using iphone or ipad. On a computer You can directly import to LR after setting the camera to PTB (in camera settings). So far as I understand this is a special mode for picture transfer and the camera is not recognized as a hard drive too.

Speed can depend on the cable You use.

Yes, it would be nice if M11 had a Mass Storage mode. Adding it to the firmware wishlist.

What kind of cable are you using?

With the correct cable it is very fast. Make sure you are using a USB-C 3.1 Cable

Same here.  I use a Thunderbolt 3 cable and I see no big difference than transferring from a SD Card slot (on a Mac)

I need to test further, but I noticed yesterday when using an older 3.1 cable it was significantly faster than both TB3 and TB4 cables. Maybe it was an anomaly, I'll test further.

The USB-C port on the camera is a USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 port

AFAIK, it does not necessarily mean that the full speed is supported. I would love to hear about your tests with M11.

Hi! I use the regular USB-C to USB-C cable that is made for Apple to charge the iPad Pro (mine is V1). Not sure what this cable standard is though. Is there a USB-C to USB-C cable you recommend? Because my experience yesterday transferring either from the camera to Fotos and from the camera to Lightroom was awful…it took so long to transfer just 170 pics with the 37MP DNGs setting.

The miami guys talk about this at the 109:30 mark.  Charging cables usually aren't great for data transfer.  to do both, you want a USB 3.1 gen 2 cable.  They also show one that has a 90 degree angled tip so you can sit the camera on its bottom while charging/transferring.

yes, wrong cable. USB-C is great, but unfortunately its a giant mess of confusion. They make USB-C cables that are for charging only, There are 3.1 Gen 1, 3.1 Gen 2, Gen 4, 3.2, Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4 all using the same connector. Look for a cable that is USB-C 3.1 Gen 1...this is what Leica choose to put on the M11 and it will give you the best results.

USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 = 5Gbps

USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 = 10Gbps

TB3 =20Gbps

TB4= 40Gbps

Its a confusing mess...but get the right cable and you will be transferring 100 DNG files in less than 2 minutes

The Miami guys recommend 3.1 gen 2.  Can you confirm that the 3.1 gen 1 cable is better?  Is the speed capped at 5 Gbps?

Oh ok this is so useful! So the one I should look for is USB-C 3.1 Gen 1. Will buy it right away, thank you so much, this really helped me.

The port according to Leica's spec sheet is a USB-C 3.1 Gen 1- so Gen 2 offers no advantage since the port is Gen 1...technically either should work the same though.

I can tell you that both TB3 and TB4 cables perform poorly despite being capable of transferring at 4-8 times the speed

I do see that the m11 manual says the interface is 3.1 gen 1.  Does anyone have a 3.1 gen 2 cable that can test to see if they can get up to 10Gbps transfer rates?

Impossible...the camera port is 5Gbps, it cant transfer faster than the port its connected to.
