Local store had 15% off a lot of Leica stuff. It was still a staggering amount of money but I thought at 15% off I could buy it and resell it later with minimal loss if I didn't gel with it.

Holy hell what a lens. It ain't going anywhere :)

I've owned the canon 70-200/2.8 mk2 before, and this thing is another beast entirely. The output from it honestly looks like a biggish prime.

Been a while since I've owned a big lens so was a bit startled at the size but it feels great in the hand. Build quality obviously exceptional.

I don't have any actual shoots until the 8th of Jan so I'll shoot the kids with it in the meantime. My idea of it at weddings is to get couples out in fields and use the tele compression at 280 odd mm to get something a little different to my competition.

I don’t use it often, but I will never sell mine as long as I stick with the SL system. I dismissed it initially based on size, but quickly reversed my opinion after handling it, and was astounded by the file quality. I was also fortunate to find a mint used copy, with warranty, for about $2k less than current list. I shared my opinion with a good friend and fellow L mount user, and after one rental, he was similarly hooked. So I found another mint used copy for him. A remarkable lens.

I don't think you're going to sell it, it's an outstanding lens.

Here's a recent image that I took of a Dark Chanting-Goshawk @ Mwiba s. Serengeti in Tanzania.

Shot directly into early morning light  -SL-2S & Leica VE 90-280mm L @ 280mm

Hi Gavin,

What a coincidence to see you here! A couple nights ago I was bored on a night shift and so decided to search ' Leica wedding photographer in Australia'. This is how I found your page. Then I went on your website, admired your beautiful photos and then saw we have all the same lenses for the SL. Only difference is I have an SL2 and an SL2-S while you habe 2 SL2's haha!

I added you on instagram, looking forward to seeing more beautiful photos from you bud!

Enjoy the lens it is superb! I only recently picked it up too probably in October. Total weapon it is 😊

Yep. It's an incredible lens and as you say, a bag of primes pretending to be a zoom.

Lovely, lovely work on your website, although I may have beaten you to the *Australian Leica SL wedding photographer who also uses an Inspire 2* by a bit. :) But I'm essentially retired from weddings now..... And I stopped using the Inspire for this type of work when the Mavic Pro2 came out. Are you considering the Mavic 3? It's rather fabulous and my wide lens is on its way from DJI at the moment. Just wish the zoom camera would shoot in DNG.

Go google hey! :) Thanks :) I'd have actually preferred sl2-s's for weddings but when I jumped in on Leica it didn't exist.

Hey Gordon. Not looking into the m3 at the moment. I use the Laowa wide angle a lot on the inspire 2 and it's a big part of how my shots look and so happy with the output I'm happy to leave it as is. I use a m2pro as my portable option, though since the 90-280 is in the bag now I'm trying to work out how to carry it with me.

Enjoy the weekends now you are a bit retired :) I'm putting another roughly 5 hard years in. I'm at roughly 125 weddings next year with the "covid overflow" so goodbye my social life next year :)

The Fujifilm is an interesting redundant choice. Not bad, mind you. I shot my last two weddings on a GFX100S/XT4 combo, after all. Did you consider a Leica CL w' 18-55 as a redundant? You can then share the lenses and TTL flash and get very closely matched colours.

I see your Mavic packing issue.. :)

I only use the Fuji for dancing shots. You know, the slow shutter zoomed in flash sort. The low light AF is quite decent on the little guy. That's also the only time I use flash.

Never actually used a Leica CL! I suspect the body would be too small for me. I need something big to grab :)

Hi Gavin, You stopped me in my tracks and once again made me ponder the purchase of the 90-280 after having convinced myself I did not need it. After three days of on again off again I returned to my original plan and bought the 16-35 sl from the same chain you bought from. Love the 16-35 but still have the 90-280 on the horizon.

Hey John. I'd like the 16-35 as well but even I have my spending limits :) Great time to buy it. Hope it goes well for you.
