Wolfgang1756 Posted December 19, 2021 Share #1 Posted December 19, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone know where the web page is for the SL lenses firmware updates? It seems to have disappeared from Leica's website. I have a Apo-Summicron-SL 75mm/2 and need to download the latest firmware for it. Many thanks. Advertisement Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 Hi Wolfgang1756, Take a look here Firmware Update For SL Lenses?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted December 19, 2021 Share #2 Posted December 19, 2021 The lens firmware is included in the camera firmware and will be installed automatically as soon as you mount the lens the first time. It is also accessible in the camera menu. It has never been available separately https://www.reddotforum.com/content/2021/09/new-firmware-for-leica-sl2-sl2-s-sl-601-sl-lenses/
SiggiGun Posted December 19, 2021 Share #3 Posted December 19, 2021 Leica has started an update if tge website. As a result, download page isn't yet consistent. Last FW update for lenses is 2.0. It comes with the 50mmSL

Wolfgang1756 Posted December 19, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted December 19, 2021 Many thanks for your help. There is one problem. My camera is not a Leica! It is the Panasonic Lumix S1R.
jaapv Posted December 19, 2021 Share #6 Posted December 19, 2021 In that case, IIRC, you'll have to borrow a Leica to update it.
Wolfgang1756 Posted December 19, 2021 Author Share #7 Posted December 19, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) That is a shame ☹️ One would expect any L-Mount lens to work fully with any L-Mount body. Hence, the L-Mount "Alliance" 😆 Would a CL body do the trick? Or does it have to be an SL series body? Thanks.
jrp Posted December 19, 2021 Share #8 Posted December 19, 2021 Leica does release separate lens firmware updates. I’d be surprised if they were not installable via a Panasonic.

The L-Mount "Alliance" has a website with links to firmware updates for all lenses in the "alliance" here:- https://l-mount.com/en/firmware But the link to Leica is dead 😢
Sandokan Posted December 20, 2021 Share #10 Posted December 20, 2021 Even for firmware, I get error messages on their web site. New site is not very good.
jrp Posted December 20, 2021 Share #11 Posted December 20, 2021 The Panasonic firmware site used to have a link to it, if I recall.
Anakronox Posted December 20, 2021 Share #12 Posted December 20, 2021 Why don’t you give Leica a call or contact their support via email? They have the files, even if the site is in total disarray. It should be trivial for them to send you a correct link. Anakronox Posted December 20, 2021 Share #14 Posted December 20, 2021 Hmmm, I wonder if there is a limitation in the Panasonic camera in that it won’t install firmware that’s not in a particular format? If you have a local dealer with an SL2 or SL2-S, you may want to ask if they can help you install it from their floor demo camera.
andries Posted January 3, 2022 Share #15 Posted January 3, 2022 It is possible to update the firmware of the apo-summicron-sl 35mm using a Panasonic Lumix S5. In short, download firmware file from Leica support site, rename file to a "8.3 name", follow standard update procedure. In detail: goto https://leica-camera.com/ Select menu Service, Support, downloads, "Firmware SL-Lenses" (or direct: https://leica-camera.com/sites/default/files/2021-12/SLLens03_1.plf) This will download the file "SLLens03_1.plf" to your computer. Apparently, the filename is too long for Lumix S5 to be recognized as a firmware file. So rename the file to e.g. "SLLe03_1.plf" (8 chars + dot + 3 chars extension). Now follow the standard update procedure, i.e. copy file to SD card, select camera menu item to update, etc. After the update, the camera shows "Lens firmware Ver.2.0" 1

bandrews Posted January 4, 2022 Share #17 Posted January 4, 2022 Does anyone know if the opposite is possible - using an SL2-S to update a Sigma lens? Reluctant to buy a USB hub to do it.

Maybe also giving some hope on success: Lumix S5 updates the firmware of Sigma 45mm f2.8 DG DN without a problem using the same procedure as to update Leica SL lens. There is at least some cross-platform compatibility (understatement). Sorry, not the answer to your question, just an expectation.

Just download the FW image from Sigma’s website onto your SD card, insert card to the SL2-S and then go to the camera menu to the lens firmware page and you can update the lens FW.
