If you look closely it seems the line jumps back to the same height as on the shutter-button-side, right where the VF window ends. So it should be a straight line at the back side.
elmars Posted December 1, 2021 Share #25 Posted December 1, 2021 The design of the M is way "cleaner" than that of the Fuji. If the line should be broken or not is a matter of taste not design quality. There are reasons for both variants.

Anyone care to compare the apparent size with the M10? Edited December 1, 2021 by LocalHero1953

I guess that Canifujisonikon have more traffic than some M-users, but they can handle it. In the meantime the site is back again, not as messy as before, but still extreeeeeeemly slow. Sorry, but looking at the real thing (present M10) and comparing it to the photo I can see no changes at all. On the leaked photo the line even seems to be "lower", but I think this is just due to the photo's point of view. Edit: I stand corrected! Measuring the printed photo at the viewfinder's left (seen from the front) I get 2.55cm for the metal top, and 8.7cm for the leathered bottom including the bottom plate. Measuring the real M10 I get 2.3 m for the top and 8.05 cm for the bottom part. The ratio bottom./.top is 3.412 for the photo and 3.5 for the real M10. So it seems as if there was more "top" on the photo - or/and the whole camera shown on the photo is higher than the present M10. Looking at the viewfinder's right the leatherette rises higher, while on the present M10 it is in line with the lower edge of the viewfinder's frame. The leatherette has a step on the photo on the viewfinder's right, while it is straight below the viewfinder's edge for the present M10. Yes, the height of the top plate seems to have been reduced, except where the viewfinder window is located on the front. I would also guess it is because of something on the back, probably the screen.
adan Posted December 1, 2021 Share #37 Posted December 1, 2021 Just for the record, there has always (since the M2) been a 3D accent line that curves around the lens mount - higher under the small RF window, and lower under the larger VF window. (Which is probably why Fuji copied that line for the earlier X100s - a more "M-like" appearance.) The fact that the RF/VF was re-engineered for the M10, with an even larger VF window (.73x, high-eyepoint), has already changed that 3D "ledge" to be more obviously at different levels. Personally, I like that the metal/leatherette line now follows the 3D ledge-line more closely. But I expect it is mostly a "form-follows-function" change, to allow, as evikne suggests, for 2-3mm more contiguous "real-estate" on the back leatherette - bigger LCD, or other items.
UliWer Posted December 1, 2021 Share #38 Posted December 1, 2021 (edited) 6 hours ago, evikne said: Another cosmetical change is the front line of the top cover. I stand corrected, please ignore my answer in #38, the whole description was wrong! Measuring the printed photo at the viewfinder's left (seen from the front) I get 2.55cm for the metal top, and 8.7cm for the whole front including the bottom plate. Measuring the real M10 I get 2.3 m for the top and 8.05 cm for the whole front. The ratio camera./.top is 3.412 for the photo and 3.5 for the real M10. So it seems as if on the viewfinder's side there was more "top" on the photo. Looking at the viewfinder's right the leatherette rises higher, while on the present M10 it is in line with the lower edge of the viewfinder's frame. If you follow the line from left to right the leatherette on the photo has a step down on the viewfinder's left and a step up on the viewfinder's right, while it is straight below the viewfinder's edge for the present M10. My measurements for the side left of the release button are 1.75cm./. 8.05cm for the photo (ratio camera./.top 4.6) and 1.85cm ./.7.4cm for the real M10 (ratio 4). So the photo's top seems to be considerably lower on the left. Edited December 1, 2021 by UliWer
UliWer Posted December 1, 2021 Share #39 Posted December 1, 2021 If I am not totally mixed up with all my measurements, the photo's viewfinder window looks larger than on the present M10. Could that mean more enlargement with wider field of view?
