I think the SL2 is underappreciated.

You are right, of course. But there's more to it.

As a brand, Leica is for the vast majority of advanced camera users not even the faintest option. Too expensive, to behind technology when it comes to specs, you name it. They are drawn to the competition by price, specs and the pure lust for fast-paced model change and the inevitable GAS.

But in other markest, beyond technology-affine YouTubers, there are enthusiast and pro's alike who have other values: seasoned cinematographers, film directors, creative staff in agencies, fine art artists, everyone with a deeper sense for artisan value. They have that sense for quality you must have to appreciate a Leica. Leica delivers on the hardware side, on the results and, most importantly, on the motivational side (the latter one is often the secret reason why people purchase a Leica).

In this target group, the SL2 is highly appreciated, even if they don't own a SL2 or just learned about it. Their reaction is always, ah a Leica! And never, that thing is heavy, preposterously expensive, and bitterly underspecced.

For me, the SL is so good, the SL2 has no interest for me.  Not saying it’s not a great camera; just that the SL is so good, I have no need to look elsewhere.  I will almost certainly buy back into the SL lenses.

I am extremely happy with the SL2 . I shoot primarily in studio and now use it there instead of the S system. I consider that the Summicron 35 and 50 are the best lenses I have ever owned too. I never had any problem at all with my SL while the improvements from that were worthwhile to me.

My biggest reservation over the TL lenses.

I don’t think most of the CL lenses do. The pancakes are on the fence but the lenses I tend to use like the 35, 60 and the zooms are far more *dense* feeling than any Fuji, Sony or Sigma APSC lens, I’ve used. I do tend to use the grip and a Thumbie on my CL2 though. Cameras can be too small. Hoping the next one (yes I’ve heard the rumours that there won’t be) is Q sized.

I prefer the CL (and Olympus Pen F) over the XPro2 for this reason.

The SL didn't work as well for me as the SL2 because of the grip. All the rest of the stuff—IBIS, 47 MP, etc. are nice bonuses.
