Hi,

My brother has given me this m2, and i did looked up it's within the serial of ks15-4.

As i am a newbie, i would like to ask the community whether this is the authentic ks15-4, based on the pictures.

thanks in advance

In this image, we can see that the base plate has roller (tulip style coupling) of later M4.

So this may be M2-R

The KS15-4 has no special engraving and does have the M4 loading system. The OP's camera does also appear to have the extra dust seals, and the serial number comes within the correct range. That said more details are needed, it could be a regular M2 converted later but at the moment I think it could be genuine, it is however amazing that so many of these military cameras show up in pristine condition. The M2-R is just the civilian version of the KS15-4.

Need to see the other half of the camera at this angle to know if it's got the M4 take-up spool.

I agree with you.

There were under 900  KS-15-4cameras made & the  s/nos. were in the range of 1163151-1163770 & 1164046-1164300. I would think that as it falls within the correct s/no. range it's most probably genuine.  Cameras that were converted later would have s/nos. outside of this range.

Hello Samascha,

Welcome to the Forum.

Could we also see a photo of the other side of the inside of the camera where the end of the new roll of film goes please?

Best Regards,

Michael

I hope your brother also got you the rest of the set, case and lenses etc. Meanwhile this has also been cross posted on the Collectors forum so the discussion goes on there as well, maybe a Moderator could clean it all up?

Hi, I have little disagreement with a seller of a Leica M2 KS15-4, he tells me that this version was made for the US Army
in 275 copies, for me it's wrong the real figure is 874/875 copies and 2000 copies for the M2-R. Please provide your expertise
on this.

Here is his announcement on summilux (Vulcanite replaced).

Maybe the seller was thinking to a different modified M2  ... the M2-M made for the NY Electric motor : indeed, 275 (or 276) items are generally reported for it.
