Ain't gonna happen.

Don't know why you are so sure or on what this is based.  It would however indeed be a surprise that Leica would add video back in the M.  But look at the new Apple MacBook Pro's that were recently introduced : they returned to the magsafe power adapter, hard function keys en God thanks a HDMI connecter and SD card slot.

But Leica is Leica and they have already a very capable video body that accepts M lenses : the SL2 and SL2s.

Let me therefor restate it this way .... it is unlikely but not impossible a future M will have video capabilities.

Video was apparently removed from the M10, according to Leica execs, because of the size (slimness) priority as well as heat management concerns.  This includes battery and other related issues.

In other interviews, execs spoke to other reasons, including customer feedback.

Always hard to predict what Leica will eventually do, or offer as a different option.

I'd love to have video back, but I think everyone loves a "weather sealed" camera, so Leica probably doesn't want to go back to have microphone holes on top of the camera.  It could work if they used the hot shoe for a microphone as they did with the M240.  Most M users don't see the value of video, so I don't think it is a priority for Leica.

If there are genuine technical reasons, fair enough (though there are much smaller cameras than this that manage video perfectly well!). But I've never understood the attitude in the feedback ("Some even say I don’t get M 240 because it has video on it. So we say okay, let’s remove it, because it is not that popular. Many even requested us also a firmware update to disable the video button in M 240."). If you don't like a feature, don't use it. It's like getting upset about the frameline preview lever because you don't personally have a use for it. If customers complain about triggering video accidentally, make the control that activates it a remappable function button that can be set in the menus. The whole 'purity of the rangefinder experience' argument is a bit silly, IMHO. It's a digital camera, where video is a normal function.

and there we go : its called Sony A7 , endless features (sub menus and buttons everywhere) when you need only one or a few, for me the worst camera ever

They don't need to turn the Leica into the cockpit of a 787 just to use video. A simple menu entry would suffice. If a feature gets in your way, whether it's something you use often or never, that's just bad interface design. My Nikons do lots of complicated things I set once and then forget about. I have everything I actually use in a simple custom menu. But it seems as if there's almost a philosophical objection in some quarters to being able to shoot video on a Leica. The horror!

on the Leica CL or SL2 the quick menu is divided in 2 parts  photo and video  with no possibility to disable totally the video , the horror !

if I want to do a video I use my iPhone with Filmic Pro, video is  a nonsense on a Leica M

The holes open up to a watertight microphone assembly...

Not sure how would the video work without Auto Focusing.

If aperture is wide-open, reasonable movements would cause the subject out of DoF.

If not, the video probably not that appealing except for some maybe landscape - just use a phone.

I really don't see why. It has a rear LCD with live view and an EVF option. In some ways it would make more sense as a video camera than a dSLR does. But since they dropped the option, the only way to shoot video through those superb lenses is to buy a completely different body and adapters, quite possibly because some customers feel that these new-fangled moving pictures somehow sully the rangefinder concept.

How about this - disable all video menus by default, but include an option to enable them via an arcane set of key presses like those you use to access the service menu. Include in the box a set of sealed instructions on how to do this, which videophobes can burn without opening. Then everyone is happy, except the hardcore purists who will probably buy the guaranteed video-free version with the fake wind-on lever and no LCD.

I don't remember hearing about many people actually using the feature when it was there. In fact, except for the Leica promo videos I don't recall seeing any videos from it at all. Maybe they are all private. The fact theat there is no "Videos" section on LUF may be telling.

I saw some beautiful clips from the M240. It's never going to be used for feature films, but there is no reason why it can't be used in one of the many other uses of video one can see if you just look around.

- Just use a Sony? Why should I have to ditch my M for another camera when I want the occasional clip alongside all my stills, or carry two cameras, just because some users are nervous about a hidden and ignorable feature?

- Most M users don't want it? Lack of video was one reason (of several other reasons of 'tradition') that I left M240 for CL+SL. The remaining M users may welcome that as the correct choice, but it inevitably means the opinion of remaining M users becomes more anti-video.

- Most M-users don't want it? What about the potential M users? The wider market that Leica might wish to attract?

In answer to the thread question: not a chance!

I expect that Leica's next film camera will incorporate a 'Super 8' feature. Surely by now they must have realised how remiss it has been of them to have made stills cameras for nearly a century without any having any movie functionality? When they first introduced the M series they missed such an opportunity. It rather beggars belief that a film based stills camera won't shoot movies too ........

Might have been slightly tricky to shove 400 feet of film into a stills camera without making it any bigger or more complex. Today, all of Leica's competitors can do the digital equivalent of this. But maybe M minimalism hasn't gone far enough, even with the M10-D. Why not limit the number of shots per media card to 36? It's what Oskar Barnack would have wanted!
