rivi1969 Posted October 29, 2021 Share #1 Posted October 29, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good evening, Just wondering if I can have your insights regarding a lens I am looking to get. I was ready to buy from an acquaintance his Leica Q-P (I haven't say a solid NO yet) but after days of deliberation I decided that I should better invest in lenses for my current M8 and M9P cameras, instead of buying another one that will make me neglect what I already have and enjoy. My M8 is permanently paired to the tiny Voigtlander 21mm f4, so we are talking 28mm eq. I love its size and the IQ is pretty nice but the f4 aperture with the not so great in low light M8 is not the better combination so I am interested in something at least a stop faster. I dislike long lenses like the 7Artisans 21mm f1.4, or Huge like the Voigtlander 21mm f1.8 or 1.4 so I am thinking in the Leica Elmarit E60 which is within the same ball park and much better than what I have. For the record, my M9P is paired to a Zeiss 35mm f2. I appreciate any experience with that lens that you would like to share. Happy weekend to all, Ricardo
Advertisement Posted October 29, 2021 Posted October 29, 2021 Hi rivi1969, Take a look here 21mm lens for my M8 in the $1200's range... thinking on the E60 Elmarit.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wda Posted October 30, 2021 Share #2 Posted October 30, 2021 Some of my best M8 pictures were taken with my 21mm Elmarit ASPH. Not familiar with the version you seek.
a.noctilux Posted October 30, 2021 Share #3 Posted October 30, 2021 I second David for the Elmarit-M 21mm asph. that I use since long on my Ms, untill now. Nothing to be desire very good wide angle lens, Ricardo, if you can pay a bit (?) more, the 21mm asph. can be better choice. Another route is to buy the 21mm non-asph. now then try the asph. later to compare.
Ernstk Posted October 30, 2021 Share #4 Posted October 30, 2021 I use the 21mm Elmarit-M non aspherical. It's a great lens on the M8 and renders really nicely. (photo below, out of camera jpeg) In the UK, they're selling for around £1000 or $1360... Ernst Welcome, dear visitor! rivi1969 Posted October 30, 2021 Author Share #5 Posted October 30, 2021 Thanks for your replies. Well, the "mundane" e60 version can be found for $1000-$1250, vs $3000-3500 for the asph. An additional $2000-2500 is quite more than “a little bit more" (for me at least) is 3 times more expensive 🥺. As Ernst suggest, my M8 will be more than happy with the e60.
a.noctilux Posted October 30, 2021 Share #6 Posted October 30, 2021 (edited) Sorry, Ricardo I've checked on line ( in Paris one shop that I know ), as I don't know how much the 21mm asph. cost is now. Seen this asph. 2.8/21mm _sh for 1,900€. As I wrote, 21mm non-asph. may not be so bad choice ... indeed, not the same cost non-asph this one 930€ Edited October 30, 2021 by a.noctilux
Jean-Michel Posted October 30, 2021 Share #7 Posted October 30, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) You may want to check the inexpensive VC 21 either newish f/3.5 or older f/4. The older one does produce the “Italian flag” colour issue but that is easily remedied.

Jean Michel, yes, I so have the tiny VC f4, and I am looking for something a little but faster and not so expensive. The Voigtlander f1.4 might be nice but too big for my taste. lct Posted October 30, 2021 Share #9 Posted October 30, 2021 (edited) The Skopar 21/3.5 might fit your bill. Only con is CA in my experience with FF and APS-C cameras. Now the Skopar 21/4 did not produce significant color shifts on my M8.2 TBH. It surely does on some FF cameras but CV has fixed the issue with the 21/3.5. Re Leica 21/2.8, my only experience is with the asph version. Works fine on the M8.2 but it is significantly larger and heavier than both 21/4 and 21/3.5 CV lenses. Blocks the viewfinder a lot too but it is not a problem if you use an accessory finder. The ZM 21mm f2.8 Biogon would be a good option for the M8. I would think you could find a used one in the price range you are looking at. -Thomas
