Arte di Mano Aventino Half Case with Battery Door for Leica M10

Recommended Posts

I don’t use grips or cases, but this video may provide some useful information regarding their half cases. As noted, one can custom order a half case that fits over the M10 with the Leica grip…

There are also other discussions here…

I’ve had Arte cases on 4 Leicas so far, and love them, the quality really is second to none. I have the one with door access now on my M10-R and I like it a lot - it gives direct access to the battery and memory card, so no fiddling with the baseplate.

It does provide a bit of additional grip, but not that much to be honest, to me it’s mostly about the battery/card access plus some protection to the camera.

Thanks for the replies. I've used Arte and Oberwerth on the M10-R. I wasn't happy with the dimension of the Arte bump and how my fingers fit it. The Oberwerth was not much better. Consequently, I stopped using half-cases and went to the Leica grip. I like it, and need it to help steady my hand, but at times wish it had a different tactile feel.

The Arte half-case for the Leica grip may be too much girth for my hand.

I have the Leica grips on my M cameras to help me get a solid hold on them.  Having spent the money on the grips, it doesn't make much sense for me to get Arte Di Mano half cases for them, although the ADM half cases are beautiful.

Being pragmatic about photographic purchases sucks.  😖

I have owned Arte Di Mano cases for several of my Leica's over the years. I do have concerns however with the one with the Battery Door Option where the bottom plate is removed, and the case fits over the exposed bottom of the camera.

It seems obvious that with the plate removed, the camera would be subjected to the ingress of dirt, dust and moisture. It's a 'no-go' for me. If I were to buy one, it would be the standard model where the M10x bottom plate is still installed.

I don't see how a half-case would allow any kind of dirt or moisture in the bottom of the camera.  When the bottom flap is opened only the battery & card are accessible.  The rest of the camera's bottom is protected.   It's a personal preference, but I like not having to fiddle with the bottom plate and also like the added protection as well as the little bit of handgrip on the front.

Water travels and finds openings/cut-outs.  Plus leather vs metal. Weather sealing would be compromised.  Whether that matters depends on usage and preferences.  Weather/whether.

I live in the desert where moisture or weather really isn't a consideration, but I could see where it would be in more severe climates.  Personally, I wouldn't be out shooting in inclement weather, not that there is a lot of that here to begin with.  In the event that there could be some rain, it would be a good idea to carry the baseplate in the bag to replace the case if needed.

have one on my m10 for years. no, dirt, dust or moisture at all.  I enjoy the ease of switching batteries and memory cards.

I love the Arte Di Mano cases. I’m just hesitant to buy the one which replaces the M10x bottom due to ingress of dirt, dust etc. perhaps my concerns are unwarranted?

They are. IMHO.
