Can anyone share any of raw files with SL/SL2/SL2s? Start with clicking on the preview for full quality. Then consider that the images are 2480 px wide max.You will have to scale your monitor to fill the screen.

Thanks, yes, i did click on them, unfortunately they're all are either oversharpened, have heavy noise reduction applied or both. Good display will show all the issues with the picture very quickly unfortunately...
jaapv Posted March 5, 2023 Share #143 Posted March 5, 2023 Unfortunately the problem lies in the use of a 5K display. Even 4K shows perfectly prepared photographs as oversharpened. There are threads on this forum that discuss this The use of 4K (and now 5K) results in soft prints. Unsuitable for photo editing. I have a 4K secondary screen; I had to scale it down to 1920 to make it usable.

This is not true, high resolution displays are perfectly suitable for photo editing, in fact much better than lower resolution ones. However, if you work on 2k display and sharpen picture on it, it will look over sharpened on higher resolution display, this is expected and normal. Another thing is they way people reduce picture size, often with additional sharpening on low res display, but this is another topic for discussion. jaapv Posted March 8, 2023 Share #145 Posted March 8, 2023 Not my experience. I judge my sharpening on print A3+ . Best results on 2K. 4K yields soft results.

You need to apply sharpening depending on the media. You cannot have the same sharpening applied for prints as well as for monitor, this is not how it works. That's why i've asked for raw files, as users "input" always a potential error.
jaapv Posted March 8, 2023 Share #147 Posted March 8, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) That is obvious… Basic 1.1. Sharpening is more of a science than eyeballing it. However, it is best to optimize images for web display for 2K as that is what most viewers will be using. Personally I never give out raw files. They are only a half-product and I don’t want anybody else messing with them.

For this picture, and the one before it, to my eyes they are plenty sharp. However, it seems that the focus is ahead of the eyes... for example the feet and tree branch as well as the body feathers seem more in focus than the eye and the beak. (similar in the prior photo). Is that normal for this lens, and the eye/body focus? Also, I've read comments about using the Sigma dock to tweak the autofocus; is that something that would be helpful here? Or, is this an example of where people criticize the autofocus of the SL cameras? Thanks! Brad

I plan on getting a Sigma dock to tweak the lens in the next few days, to see if I can get sharper shots. More often than not, I need to shoot with the lens wide-open, so It's possible that minor movements are affecting the sharpness. I do know that the results with the same lens on a Sony a7r V considerably sharper, so it could be the focusing mode.
