Well apparently I have the same situation, I called Leica , April 4,2022 and they scheduling appointment for the next day to replace the issue, I still don't believe how bad quality leather they been used. I am definitely  very disappointed. (photos been made with iPhone 13 pro) http://www.j3-media.com

I suspect this could happen to all SL2 cameras. Some people, though, either have smaller fingers or fingers where the nails do not extend beyond the finger pad. My fingers rarely touch the body at this point, and my finger nails cannot.

It's just natural variation among humans.

I've got two SL2 bodies - the first one was repaired by Leica.  The second one is backup / needed on assignments when both bodies are in use but is less used.  It to was starting to show signs of this wear.  I've solved the problem with these Chinese leather half cases, which are actually pretty good (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274866214936).  I'd recommend this as a  long term solution as it seems the ergonomics and cover material of the SL2 are at fault. When you inspect the damage it actually looks like some kind of leatherette - real leather wouldn't tear in this way.  I've NEVER had a similar problem with Canon or Nikon DSLRs...

Hi yes happened to me the same probably the same time as you in 4th quarter of 2021 . Vary sad …

Since SL2 came out I always was thinking about the clean SL1  body hoping maybe the 3 will go back to the straight bare body .

trying to attach the photo but could not yet .

As a non-owner I feel this is getting to a stage where Leica should address this fault. After all, this touches on their reputation as a high-quality brand. Has anybody pushed this issue in Wetzlar?

Hmm, I have the same leather-wear issue and eye cup wear issue. I do understand that some folks see normal-wear as a badge of pride. I personally like all my equipment/things to be clean, just a preference so these kind of things do become annoying since I’m naturally careful. I still really love the camera so I plan to continue using it. Just contacted Leica to see my options to get them repaired. I don’t mind not being with the camera for a since I have other options

I think it either needs a re-design of the hand grip so it's not such a sharp angle of approach to the main body (like Canon 5D series), of a radical change to the material.  I'm keeping the leather half case on mine for now.  It works surprisingly well, and I now find it gives a better grip than the bare body.  Looks OK too... (even has a cheeky Leica logo...)

I have had a similar wear spot only SL2 in the same area between the lens mount and the hand grip.   The general shape of the grip is the same as that of  my Canon 1D series cameras.  I use the 1D cameras sports and they get much more severe wear and tear than my SL2.   None of my three Canon 1D series ever cameras has shown any signs of wear in the same area over 17 years of use. I've worn out shutters but never the rubber-like shell.    It would appear that Leica made a poor choice in materials for a brand where the rest of the brand's cameras are famous for lasting decades.   The problem is so readily visible that Leica Camera needs to come up with a solution.

I am not a great fan of the body covering as it feels uncomfortable in my hands.  That said, I have used an Oberweth half case since I received my SL2-S and it easier for me to grip.

That actually looks pretty nice!

Interesting - and, even more disappointingly I've just discovered an additional failure.  Again - something I've never had on any other professional body!

Another point to raise with Leica.  These are professional tools that have to withstand normal wear and tear (like being USED!).  We're not talking about dropping, taking bullets or being thrown into salt water.  Just simple handling, being taken in and out of camera bags and being carried.  I really expected better.  ALL my M's have been robust and durable.  I feel concerned that the SL has some fundamental problems with its external design and finish.

Virtually every used black sl2 that I see for sale has fabric damage! Take a look in Ebay for yourself.

Following up on my much earlier post.

1) the eye cup on the S (006) is user replaceable and I have done so.

2) I broke down and purchased an SL2-S and after over two years of use it has shown no sign of leather wear near the grip.
