The M-Rokkor hood does have a thread on the front as shown, it allows filters and the cap to be placed.

Yes but that is not compatible with the Summicron-C.

I have the Leica Summicron 40mm, it was my first Leica lens and I picked it up for a song!

I’ve recently had it CLA’d and it’s come back in superb condition - it renders as well as my 50mm f2 and just a hair off the same sharpness S the 35mm Summicron ASPH V2 I have.

I tend to use it on my M6 mainly as it makes for a small, lightweight option.

So just for clarification-- do you know if the Heliopan UV filter has an internal thread pitch of 0.75, or is it 0.5? I would assume, based on the fact that it accepts the rubber hood, that it is 0.75. I just picked one up for my Summicron-C and was hoping for a 0.75 --> 0.5 conversion, but oh well. C'est la vie.

It's certainly a very enjoyable (and light) lens to use - very much in the Leica ethos - in these examples on the original Leica CL using Ilford XP2 Super

For those using this lens on digital, what lens profile do you use in the lens detection menu?

I could not find the Summicron-C 40mm in my M11's lens menu, so I just used the 35mm/f2 as a proxy. Of course, looking through the EVF is fine, and it exposes fine as well, but of course the lens info in the metadata is wrong. Not a biggie, but curious what others have done.

The Summicron-C 40/2 is not coded by Leica, reason why you won't find it in the lens profiles list of your M11 i guess. The lens has the same moderate barrel distortion as the Summicron-M 35/2 v3 more or less so you can choose the profile of the latter. It won't correct for anything else than distortion though if the M11 behaves like my M240 and digital CL from this viewpoint.

Edit: The code number of the 35/2 v3 is 11309. If you don't find it in your lens profile list you can choose 11310 or 11311 instead. Those are the code numbers of black and chrome Summicron-M 35/2 v4 the distortion of which is very close to that of the 35/2 v3. I would not choose the profile of Summicron-M 35/2 asph lenses though (11879, 11882) as they have a mustache shape distortion.

Lens detection for an M camera does not correct distortion, but only vignetting. Though Lightroom may apply a "correction" of distortion if you enable the "profile correction" and it detects a certain lens profile.

I haven't used LR for a long time but 6-bit coding does correct for vignetting on my M240. Just applied the 35/2 lens profile to the Summicron-C 40/2 on this body and the same correction works as well. Thanks for correcting me.

Many thanks. I found the 11310/11311 in the menu and are using that.

I had had this lens sitting in my dry cabinet for years. I thought I had put it away 'never to be used again' because of a haze issue. Now with my nice new M11, I thought it might be nice to use it again with an accurate FOV through the EVF. But first, I wanted to remind myself how bad the haze was, so did the 'holding up to the lamp' test. Surprisingly, there was no haze ?!?!, just dust. Have done a few dozen test pics and it is as sharp and clear as you would want. Very odd, but now I have a great little lens I thought I had lost.

An example attached. F2.8, ISO 64.
