I think my favourite has to be the 35mm f3.5 Summaron in screw fit.

That’s a lot of Summarons ahah any difference between them? I had one but ended up preferring the Elmar 3.5cm. The summaron is a lovely lens though. Really like it as well :)

I haven’t noticed any real difference between them. I have two others in M mount, an early M3 version that brings up the 50mm frame and one with Goggles that I bought in 1973, plus an f2.8 screw and three f2.8 in M mount. I think that amounts to ten in all !

Okayyyy... and tell us what’s so special about the 3.5 version?

It’s small, it’s sharp, it’s just a nice little lens to have and use, with b&w film of course.

It's equally at home on a digi-body. I've owned my M-mount version since '79/'80 and have liked it so much I've never needed to buy another 35.

Wonderful lens which is absolutely true to Oskar Barnack's ethos for the Leica system.

Philip.

Yeah I like it better than the f2.8 actually just for the fact that it is much smaller and feels better built being all brass. And although I understand the f2.8 has better sharpness I do prefer the rendering of the f3.5. But in the end the reason I sold it is simply because the Nikkor 35mm f2.5 LTM is a better lens (rendering wise from my PoV), and one stop brighter, and as well built, so that’s my main 35mm alongside the elmar 35 f3.5.

I got hold on a nice copyas well, with orginial hood and lens cover. Really nice lens and nice drawing. However, with some ¨haze¨ or fogging on the lens element right behind the aperture blades. An occurence I believe is quite common with this lens. While pictures ¨behave¨ well, it would still be nice to get this cleaned. One of a very few ols-school camera technicians in my country gave it a try, but was afraid of breaking something when trying to open the lens. It was obviously very tight.

I have never sent any lens to third party service abroad. Any suggestions for a good place to ship it?

I assume you mean customers from the UK, but my answer was to a member from Norway (according to his profile).

I see. But long ago the vikings conquered England. That was my misunderstanding.

In all honesty my 'favourite' (most-used) lenses are all rather pedestrian visually-speaking - 28mm Elmarit ASPH; 50mm Summicron v4; 40mm f1.4 Voigtlander Nokton - but there is one lens, a 90mm Summicron pre-ASPH in silver-chrome finish, which I didn't need - I already had one 'the same' but in a different finish - yet bought anyhow simply because it was so absolutely gorgeous.

Snaps have been posted elsewhere a while ago but, FWIW, here are both versions. Regular Black Chrome on the M-D Typ-262 and Silver-Chrome on the M Monochrom;

Old favorite, less used by now,

the round aperture of this 5cm Summarit 1.5 was 'lost' with 'progress' on more modern lenses

It appears that as long as it starts with a “2”, I’ll probably like it just fine.

Not pictured, my 28 f2.8 Elmarit.  That one just hasn’t made into my shooting rotation.  I’ll have to force the issue at some point.
